Schuring, who is a state senator running for the open congressional seat in Ohio's 16th district, might want to give out some hugs to voters in the city of Canton (in his district). As another Republican who doesn't seem to understand that there is this YouTube thing, he had this to say (you can watch it in the video above):
So the other thing I know is that Ashland County has a rich history and tradition of rallying around Republicans, and I was telling people earlier where I come from we could never have a rally like this in the center of Canton. If we did we might be shot at, but not in Ashland and that's what makes you so great."This was already going to be a tough race for Schuring, who is running against Democrat John Boccieri, an Iraq war vet in an an area trending Democratic (they threw out their Republican mayor in Canton last year for a Democratic one).
But when you make racist statements like this one (and we know what he was implying there about getting "shot at" in Canton while speaking to a rural white audience), well, that will really help land the votes in Canton!
The Republican with the Macaca moment is becoming a cliche at this point.
