Patri-idiots

By GottaLaff

Democracy in action, brought to you by some real live patri-idiots:

A group of nearly 200 "extremely concerned citizens" in a small Montana county are demanding that local leaders fill out a "questionnaire" pledging to form a local militia, prohibit mandatory vaccinations, boot the EPA out of town, allow citizens to bear any type of gun, and require federal government employees to get written approval before approaching "any Citizen." [...]

Reached today by TPMmuckraker, Gairing, who helped compose the questionnaire, said he decided to stop talking to media because "it's way too complicated to give justice to in an interview." He added that no elected offiicals have filled out the questionnaire yet.
Those complicated rulez 'n' stuff are just beyond peeplz comprehenshun. Thaz why the nooz and us wont geddit, and why offishuls wont ansser the kwestchuns.

Here is Judge Sotomayor's questionnaire

By GottaLaff

Should you be so inclined, it's all there... in PDF format.

I have empathy for Sonia Sotomayor for having to fill out that questionnaire.

I am a white liberal female, and I would hope that a wise white woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white Rushpublic male who hasn't lived that life.

Here's a random sample from the questionnaire:
b. Has anyone involved in the process of selecting you for this nomination (including, but not limited to anyone in the Executive Office of the President, the Justice Department, or the Senate and its staff) ever discussed with you any currently pending or specific case, legal issue, or question in a manner that could reasonably be interpreted as seeking any express or implied assurances concerning your position on such case, issue, or question? If so, explain fully. Identify each communication you had prior to the announcement of your nomination with anyone in the Executive Office of the President, the Justice Department, or the Senate or its staff referring or relating to your views on any case, issue, or subject that could come before the Supreme Court of the United States, state who was present or participated in such communication, and describe briefly what transpired.

No.

c. Did you make any representations to any individuals or interest groups as to how you might rule as a Justice, if confirmed? If you know of any such representations made by the White House or individuals acting on behalf of the White House, please describe them, and if any materials memorializing those communications are available to you, please provide four (4) copies.

No.

Judge Sotomayor's questionnaire: "A new modern record"

By GottaLaff

Via WhiteHouse.gov:

In an effort to advance her nomination through the Senate as swiftly as possible, Judge Sotomayor has completed her questionnaire faster than any Supreme Court nominee in recent history – in just 9 days. For historical context, it took Chief Justice Roberts 13 days, Justice Ginsburg 15 days and Justice Alito 30 days from the time they were designated to the time they completed their questionnaires. With her record of 17 years on the bench, this historically fast completion of the exhaustive questions is no small feat that will hopefully lead to her swift consideration by the Senate and enable her to be a member of the Supreme Court by the time they begin selecting cases in September.
But by all means, let's hold up her confirmation until at least September, right GOP?

The Rushpublics are obviously a lot slower than Sotomayor is.
