TPC EXCLUSIVE: Tamyra d'Ippolito to run for U.S. Senate as a Libertarian

A reliable source close to the Tamyra d'Ippolito campaign has given TPC a bit of a scoop:

Tamyra d'Ippolito, who failed to get on the Indiana ballot as a Democrat after Evan Bayh announced his retirement, is going to Indianapolis tomorrow. Why?

She's paying a visit to the secretary of state's office to announce her change in political party.

She will be running for the U.S. Senate as a Libertarian.

According to my source, the Libertarian party said they would welcome her on the ballot as their candidate. She is almost guaranteed a place on the ballot because the Libertarians did the required to work to keep their spot open.

I don't hold out a whole lotta hope for Tamyra.

And who will she pull votes from? Women? The GOP?

McCain in Discussions with Ron Paul

I just don't see this happening.

Sen. John McCain's campaign "has been negotiating with Rep. Ron Paul to win his support and acquire the names of his sympathizers among the 4,607 delegates and alternates at the Republican National Convention," according to the Washington Times.

"The aim is to try to win support for the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket from Paul sympathizers, some of whom formally committed to Mr. Paul during his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination and others of whom are closet sympathizers of his libertarian brand of Republicanism."

June 19, 2008 — A New InsiderAdvantage / PollPosition survey conducted June 18 of registered likely voters in the November presidential contest shows Sen. John McCain leading Sen. Barack Obama by a single point in Georgia, making the race in Georgia a statistical tie. Libertarian Bob Barr, a former Republican Congressman from Georgia, received 6 percent of the vote. The telephone survey of 408 registered likely voters is weighted for age, race, gender, and political affiliation. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 5%. It was conducted with InsiderAdvantage’s research partner Majority Opinion Research. The Results:

McCain: 44%

Obama: 43%

Barr: 6%

Undecided: 7%

Former Rep. Bob Barr Wins Libertarian Nod

Let the further fracturing of the GOP voters commence!!!

Former Georgia Congressman (1995-2003), Bob Barr, has won the Libertarian Party nomination as candidate for president. The party convention, held this week in Denver, nominated Barr on the 6th ballot, defeating Mary Ruwart - a research scientist.

Barr, probably best known for his role in the Bill Clinton impeachment trial, left the Republican Party in 2006 and shortly thereafter set up an exploratory commission for the 2008 presidential campaign.

Barr, long a favorite of some conservatives, leads some to think he might pull some votes from John McCain in November. However, since leaving Congress in '03 his personal platform has a decidedly leftist feel. Historically opposed to Bush administration thought on Iraq, Iran and the Patriot Act, Barr has recently joined the ACLU. As a Republican, he too was seen as a maverick, while at the same time his past record of social conservatism seems at odds with traditional Libertarians.
