Report: Actor Kal Penn to leave Obama administration

No confirmation from the White House yet, but Entertainment Weekly reports that Kal Penn is leaving the White House. But the question remains: Will he get residuals?

Oh, but I kid the White House:

Penn, whose real name is Kalpen Modi, has spent much of the past year working in the White House Office of Public Liaison, which is run by Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.

EW.com reported that the actor is returning to Hollywood to resume his acting career, starting with a Christmas-themed installation of the "Harold and Kumar" series.

At least he didn't say he's leaving to spend more time with his family. Points for originality!

Actor Kal Penn takes White House job

Kal Penn, the actor who was a remarkably diligent, oddly well-informed campaigner for Obama, killed his character on "House" last night so the actor could take a White House job, EW.com reports.

Penn:

I was incredibly honored a couple of months ago to get the opportunity to go work in the White House. I got to know the president and some of the staff during the campaign and had expressed interest in working there, so I'm going to be the associate director in the White House office of public liaison. They do outreach with the American public and with different organizations. They're basically the front door of the White House. They take out all of the red tape that falls between the general public and the White House. It's similar to what I was doing on the campaign.
