Time Mag Columnist: Obama Is "Very Rational-Sounding Sort Of Bigot"

By GottaLaff

Via HuffPost, we get this:

In a Time magazine column, John Cloud writes that gay people should not be surprised that Barack Obama picked Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration: [...]
Gays and lesbians are angry that Barack Obama has honored Warren, but they shouldn't be surprised. Obama has proved himself repeatedly to be a very tolerant, very rational-sounding sort of bigot. He is far too careful and measured a man to say anything about body parts fitting together or marriage being reserved for the nonpedophilic, but all the same, he opposes equality for gay people when it comes to the basic recognition of their relationships. He did throughout his campaign, one that featured appearances by Donnie McClurkin, a Christian entertainer who preaches that homosexuals can become heterosexuals.
I guess Cloud forgot about Rev. Joseph Lowery. This isn't a governing issue, to quote a HuffPo commenter. In fact, Obama declared his opposition to Prop 8. No, it's more about his keeping his campaign promise of inclusion. Not that I agree with his decision to give Rev. Rick a worldwide audience, because I don't, but labeling Obama as a bigot is rather extreme. One might even say bigoted.

Oh, and there's this:
Gay activists met with members of President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team last week in a two-hour session focused on policy issues and presidential appointments, according to gay group leaders.

Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said transition leaders were “very receptive” to requests from gay activists.

I think they went to great lengths to explain their vision for how [policy initiatives] would work and how our community would be a part of that,” he said. [...]

Last week, Obama brought in the first openly gay person to a prominent position in his administration by tapping Nancy Sutley, deputy mayor of Los Angeles for energy and environment, to head the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

[
Chuck Wolfe, president of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund] commended the decision to bring Sutley on board and said in a statement that her nomination “sends a signal to young people that they can participate in their government at its highest levels, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender or ethnicity.”
The attendees noted that they "expected the administration to take on other issues affecting the nation first."
The Dec. 10 meeting was not the only time this month that gay activists have met with transition team leaders. David Smith, HRC’s director of policy and strategy, said gay leaders also met Dec. 11 with officials making the transition decisions for executive departments.
That doesn't sound like bigotry to me.
Who is John Cloud? He's the Time Magazine reporter who wrote the puff cover piece on the she-pundit with long blond hair. He also is today's most ridiculed reporter in the blogosphere.
