David Gergen virtually called it for Obama

Add David Gergen to the list. On CNN just now, David Gergen cited the most recent poll (can't recall which one) that he'd seen, and saying that it was reliable, and one of the better polls in terms of its thoroughness, concluded that he couldn't see how Gramm-pa McCain could pull this off.

Especially because, as he said, "At this late date, the polls are widening."

Earlier, a team of reporters said that, because Obama looks like he'll win Virginia, then most likely other states will follow suit, especially if there is high voter turnout. Each talking head pretty much called it for Obama.

Anderson Cooper is calling it a "surge" for Obama. I'm sure Grammps will appreciate his choice of terms.

However, before we get too confident, let's not forget three outcome-changing possibilities: Election fraud, voter turnout, and a (manufactured) national emergency.

I felt that something had changed today, and now I see I'm not alone.

David Gergen just now on Anderson Cooper 360 (paraphrased some):

I believe we're at a turning point... Because of the urgency of the state of our economy, McCain's momentum is fading, Obama has an opportunity... It's about the issues.

Candy Crowley:

They can paint McCain as George Bush.

Also, about that other ad. You know the one... it had them two blonde sexpots in it that imply all kinds of wrong and sleazy things? Yeah, that one:

• Mike Murphy, McCain's campaign manager during the 2000 Republican primary: "clumsy, juvenile, and a mistake... I think it was a dumb ad."
• Roberta McCain [J Sid's mother], while acknowledging that she had not seen the Britney spot, called the idea "stupid."
• Kathy Hilton, Paris' mother: "It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States."

But this is a referendum about Obama. Where is the logic?

UPDATE:

Disquieting Rasmussen numbers this morning--McCain's crying racism worked. 53% of Americans, including the same % of whites and half of all Democrats, thing that Obama's "dollar bill" remark was "racist." Only 22% think the Paris Hilton ad was racist--most of those being black people, of course (only 18% of white people took this view).

That was from a reader over at TPM. They did, however, take some comfort from the Gergen segment (above).
