S&Mer Jetton Tried to Ban Gay "Deviate Sexual Intercourse"
By GottaLaff
Look out kiddies, Rod (amusing name, considering the circumstances) has it out for "deviant" Teh Gay Love!
Safe word alert level: Red (green apparently didn't work).
Here's the latest:
Rod Jetton (R), the Missouri power broker who is accused of assault in a S&M encounter gone bad, apparently fought to ban "deviate sexual intercourse" in his state -- at least when it involved same sex couples, TPM reports.I wonder if his family wants to spend time with him.
Now, the Kansas City Star reports Jetton "will be leaving politics to deal with false allegations and spend time with his family," according to a statement issued by his lawyer.
Those wascal Wushpublics, they're America's best constant source of Family Values debauchery!

Former Republican MO House Speaker charged with felony assault, allegedly during S&M session
By GottaLaff
Former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton (R) "was charged with felony assault that allegedly happened during an S&M session gone wrong," reports the Riverfront Times.I can only imagine what would have happened if it had gone right. No, on second thought...
Reports say Jetton told the woman to use the safe words "green balloons" to make him stop but she was apparently drugged, fading in-and-out of consciousness and unresponsive.Maybe if she'd chosen a better safe word? Like, oh I dunno, "Stop!!!!"
KFVS-TV:
Rushpublic gone wrong. Very wrong. Welcome to the "Family Values" party.Jetton is accused of abusing the woman at her home in mid-November, a claim that Wilson first disputed Monday evening. A statement from Wilson reads: "Mr. Jetton was shocked and surprised when first advised of the allegation made against him. Now that a complaint is filed in court, Mr. Jetton's only comments are that he is not guilty, and will vigorously defend this allegation in court and not in the media."
Jetton is named in a complaint filed Monday in Scott County Circuit Court. In the complaint, prosecuting attorney Paul Boyd accuses Jetton of hitting the woman in the head and "choking her, resulting in unconsciousness and the loss of function of a part of her body." [...]
According to the affidavit, the woman remembers Jetton hitting her on the face very hard, then waking up and lying on the floor with Jetton choking her. She then recalled waking up and having sex with Jetton in the bedroom, then waking up the next morning with Jetton in her bed.
Ew Factor: Through the roof.

[...]Happy hundred, President Obama!Obama will be holding a town hall in suburban St. Louis "where he will give a progress report on the administration and take questions from Missourians about the administration's agenda, looking forward," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced Tuesday.
In his daily briefing Tuesday, Gibbs joked it was no accident the president would be on the road that day hoping to put his own imprint on press coverage of an administration's first 100 days in office.

Missouri touts bridge project as first under federal stimulus

Money getting spreaded around begets mo' money. Let's go!!
TUSCUMBIA, Mo. -- Construction crews began replacing a rural bridge just minutes after President Barack Obama signed a $787 billion stimulus package on Tuesday. The bridge project likely is the first in the nation to get started under the stimulus plan.
Missouri transportation officials met at the bridge on Tuesday and quickly approved its replacement as a way of showing that infrastructure expenditures can have an immediate economic effect.
The 1,000-foot bridge crosses a Missouri River tributary about 30 miles southwest of the state Capitol. It was built in 1933. It was closed to large trucks in 2007 because of structural concerns.
The Missouri Department of Transportation also planned to begin work on Tuesday on three other projects.

Democrat Carnahan Would Beat Potential Rivals for Missouri Senate
By GottaLaff
Dem Dems are Demonstrably Demolicious:
Robin Carnahan (D) would be the early favorite for Missouri's open U.S. Senate seat in 2010 if she decides to run, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey.
Carnahan leads three potential Republican opponents in hypothetical contests. She has a 45% to 44% edge over Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), a 47% to 43% lead over former Sen. Jim Talent (R-MO), and a 47% to 36% advantage over former Treasurer Sarah Steelman (R).

Bond Not Running for Re-Election

Sucks to be in the waning minority, eh Kit?
Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) will not run for re-election in 2010, according to Politico, "giving Democrats a shot to pick up a seat in a state that has emerged as a major battleground."
"The announcement is a blow to Senate Republicans, who now will have at least four of their incumbents seeking retirement at the end of the session, a sign that 2010 could be another tough cycle for the weakened GOP minority. "

Missouri breaks bellwether streak with John McCain win over Barack Obama
h/t Alison in commentsJEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Republican John McCain has defeated President-elect Barack Obama in Missouri — the last state to be decided in the 2008 presidential election.
McCain’s narrow victory over Obama breaks a bellwether streak in which Missourians had picked the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1956.
With all jurisdictions reporting complete but unofficial results, McCain led Obama by 3,632 votes Wednesday out of more than 2.9 million cast — a margin of 0.12 percentage points.

Presidential race not over in Missouri
By GottaLaff
The presidential contest is still not over in Missouri [...] In fact, the vote count in Missouri is tightening. They also have to sort through the provisional ballots. Waiting for mo' from MO...
Republican John McCain's statewide lead has shrunk to fewer than 5,000 votes, as various counties have recounted and revised their totals from last Tuesday's
election.
Since Election Day, Obama has gained almost 1,000 votes statewide, most of it from St. Louis County.
County election officials have recovered almost 3,200 additional votes in the last few days. Most of them came from various electronic voting machines where the votes had apparently not been tallied by polling place workers during the initial collection of votes.
... [I]t may take another two or three weeks before a winner
is declared.
McCain's latest lead is 4,968 votes, out of more than 2.9 million cast.

Updates from Nevada and Missouri, courtesy of Chuck Todd
By GottaLaff
Chuck Todd is discussing the election with two reporters right now on MSNBC:
Gramm-pa McCain's gotta win SW Missouri big. He needs a strong turnout there. So says one reporter, Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She says that they won't go for Obama, but that she's not seeing a big win for Gramm-pa in that region.
Jon Ralston of the Las Vegas Sun is pretty much saying Obama will win Nevada.
And yes, race plays a part in the rural areas of both states, the reporters say.

Gramm-pa McCain draws crowd.... of 15
By GottaLaff
Sen. John McCain stopped in Columbia on Monday afternoon. [...]Fif-freakin'-teen. I had more people in the delivery room when my twins were born.
A crowd of about 15 people assembled outside the airport's fence to see him descend from the plane. [...]
Florence Phillips was dropping off her daughter at the airport when another of her daughters, Cheryl Daubin, told her McCain was landing. [...]Phillips, who also saw John F. Kennedy at the Joplin Airport in 1962, said she was upset at the small size of the crowd gathered to see McCain.
McCain campaign volunteer Jane Stuart agreed. In 2000, when then-Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush visited the airport there was a much larger crowd, Stuart said.

Did I say 100,000? Make that 175,000 of Obama's closest friends
By GottaLaff
KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AFP) — Democrat Barack Obama said Saturday the winds of change were blowing across America as he roused monster crowds totalling more than 175,000 in the Republican "red" state of Missouri. [...]Smart as well as big-hearted. Wowzers. All that and 175,000 friends. And he still manages to stay level-headed.
The gigantic attendance numbers were testimony to Obama's oratorical pulling power and boded well for his flipping a state, Missouri, from red to Democratic "blue." [...]
But Obama, 47, reiterated his message of recent days that supporters should not get "cocky."
"Democrats have a way of snatching defeat from the jaws from victory. You can't let up. You can't pay too much attention to the polls. We've got to keep running through that finish line," he said.

Obama draws record crowd in St. Louis
By GottaLaff
Standing under the Gateway Arch, Sen. Barack Obama spoke this afternoon before a crowd his campaign said totaled 100,000, a new U.S. record for his presidential bid.
"All I can say is wow," Obama said as he took the stage, his home state behind his back across the Mississippi River.
That's what the voters are saying about you, too, Barack: Wow.

Poll-itics: Obama leads in Missouri
By GottaLaff
I'm bangin' out the posts here, so please check down thread for any you may have missed. I keep covering them up with new ones, like this:
PPP Poll: Obama Grabs Lead in Missouri
A new Public Policy Polling survey in Missouri shows Sen. Barack Obama has taken a small lead over Sen. John McCain, 48% to 46%.GObama!
Key finding: "A big trend between the two polls is increased Democratic unity in the state. Over the summer Obama was winning just 78-15 among voters in his own party. That's now up to 89-7. Obama has also cut down significantly on John McCain's margin with white voters. What was a 56-35 lead for the Republican with that group is now down to 52-42."
Recent polls from Rasmussen and SurveyUSA also show Obama with a lead in the state.
