Chris Matthews: "Someone should tell this walrus (Rush Limbaugh) to stop this"

By GottaLaff

Chris Matthews ripped into Boss Limpdong on Hardball just now. He was expressing his deep concern over the amount of rancor and virulent speech freely expressed by media personalities about President Obama when he said the following:

This walrus under water makes fun of this administration calls it a "regime"...

You go to war with "regimes". They're tyrannies, they're military coups...

Someone should tell this walrus to stop this.

Now Chuck Todd is rambling on about how this kind of talk just has more of a platform now. Yeah right, Chuck. That's all it is.

Sure, all the technology and outlets contribute, but that wasn't Tweety's point. It wasn't so much about availability, but about the terminology, the vitriol, the extreme language.

Matthews responded, and cited this interview:

Joe McCarthy never used the word "regime".

Indeed. And it's that kind of language that incites threats and violence. It only takes one, and we're fast approaching the breaking point.

Loudmouthed louts like Limbaugh, Beck, and let's not forget Palin and a few Congress members, should be held at least partially responsible if and when a real tragedy occurs as a result.

I have to apologize now to that John Karl guy that refereed on This Week this past Sunday with Karl and Plouffe. I don't think even the best interviewer could get Karl to shut up- it's just one long soliloquy.

VIDEO- Chuck Todd, Savannah Guthrie pile on Robert Gibbs re: terrorism

By GottaLaff

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I see Savannah and Chuck got hold of a few GOP talking points. As Gibbs said, Savannah "greatly oversimplifies the process."

And she did, again and again.

How many times does this administration have to repeat the same information? The Underpants Bomber case was handled well and the outcome to date has been successful. He's spilled his guts and no torture was necessary.

Add to that the fact that our court system works well, and no terrorists have broken out of prison, nor has any city had problems when their U.S. federal courts were used to try them.

This looked like Chuck and Savannah piling on to create a stir with the intention to perpetuate a "controversy" and gin up their ratings.

Chuck Todd "says the unsayable"

By GottaLaff

Via Greg Sargent:

Chuck Todd says the unsayable: The only way for Dems to secure bipartisan cooperation is to completely embrace Republican proposals and nothing more.

Here is the tweet in question:

Moral: Stop making overtures to people who won't reciprocate. They don't want us joining in their reindeer games? Fine. Besides, they cheat.

Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie begin the dayside hours at 9am ET. Andrea Mitchell remains at 1pmET and Dylan Ratigan at 4pm.

And so it goes...

VIDEO- Chuck Todd: ‘Tea Party gets a big benefit’ from Fox promos

By GottaLaff

The ClusterFox Party-- at least it seems as if it's morphing into an actual political party-- is giving a big fat boost to its spin-off , theTea Party:

Indeed, as ThinkProgress has pointed out, Fox News has repeatedly rallied their viewers to support the Tea Parties. Before the April 15, 2009 Tea Parties, Fox dedicated 23 separate segments to the tea parties between April 6 and April 13 and ran at least 73 in-show and commercial promotions for the parties. After the 9/12 rally in Washington, Fox took out a full-page newspaper ad attacking its competitors for not covering the Tea Party like they did.
Let's start the Maddow Party. That would really tick 'em off.

Chuck Todd, Savannah Guthrie Share New MSNBC Show

What a whitebread, cracker ass waste of television time. Howsabout some diversity, maybe some "outside the beltway" types maybe? Segments that last more than 4.5 minutes even? Younger voices? Dear g-d these people are stupid.

NBC News White House correspondents Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie will be anchoring a new program for MSNBC, reports WaPo's Howie Kurtz.

The program, titled "Daily Rundown," will air at 9amET in 2010, filling the slot formerly occupied by Dylan Ratigan's "Morning Meeting," who, we heard, will be on in the afternoon.

Todd says the program "has the feel of a signature Washington show for us." The plan is for one of the two to anchor from the road when they are traveling with the president.

Added- Just what MSNBC needed, another middle aged white guy in a suit for their evening line up.

Chuck Todd interviews Robert Gibbs: Liveblog

By GottaLaff

Robert Gibbs is on MSNBC's Hardball right now, with Chuck Todd subbing for Chris Matthews, who is recovering from tests he had related to his diabetes.

Chucky is pressing Gibbs to fill in some blanks.

Gibbs is referring Chucky to the web site and a radio address for health care answers. He's saying we'll save money via malpractice reform. He's reiterating the illegal immigrant policy. "We've had a very good week."

Chuck: You'll need Republicans. At least one.

Gibbs: Obama has talked to Repubs in the past few days... [he won't reveal names because their "phone would ring off the hook"]. He's reiterating talking points about health care reform, you've heard them all.

Chuck: War in Afghanistan... to get Al Qaeda, Bin Laden. Why is he still out there? Is getting him your goal? What is?

Gibbs: Disrupt, dismantle, destroy Al Qaeda and its extremist allies. That's where 9/11 attack started. We want to prevent future attacks. We want to capture or kill Bin Laden, but that's not all. There are terrorists who want to kill Americans.

Chuck: Two enemies: Al Qaeda, the Taliban. If you feel you've destroyed Al Qaeda, then at what point can you say you've destroyed the Taliban?

Gibbs: Taliban wants to destabilize Afghan., Pakistan, sow seeds of terror. We have to disrupt, dismantle both.

Chuck: More R's agree with Afghan. policy than Dems. Pelosi, Levin nervous. How much will Obama work on the politics of that?

Gibbs: Long view: Obama asked to reassess and reevaluate. He authorized more troops to bring security to region, for election. He's asked for a review, assessment since then. No imminent timetable for troop decisions. It'll be many, many weeks. We're working through McChrystal's assessments.

Chuck: Detailed exit strategy for Congress?

Gibbs: We're working with Congress to establish benchmarks.

Chuck: A negative strategy.

Gibbs: It's a measure of strategic progress. We won't be there forever. No resources for that, or manpower, or budget. We have to focus our goals.

Chuck: Reports about training exercise about Coast Guard.

Gibbs: The Coast Guard is trying to come up with explanation. The TV reporting was false, it alarmed too many people, especially today. I wish the reporters had taken time to check for accuracy. It's more important to be first to report accurately, not just first, instead of scaring people.

VIDEO: Chuck Todd's Indiana one-on-one with President Obama

By GottaLaff

Here you go.

Liveblog: Chuck Todd interviews President Obama in Indiana

By GottaLaff

Liveblog:

President Obama is discussing the high rate of unemployment in Elkhart, Indiana. He says it has improved a little, but obviously needs improvement.

Clinton/N. Korea: Thanks Pres. Clinton for resolving what was a humanitarian ordeal. Families hugely relieved. Clinton showed that his service to his country continues. I suspect Clinton will have interesting observations from trip... We were clear that this was a humanitarian mission, on behalf of families to get journalists out. We wish N. Koreans well, but want gov't. to operate on basic rules of international community.

Todd: Why are big businesses getting stim money?
A: People's frustrations are legit. The early actions were to do with a bank bailout, not stim package. It's a problem because TARP fund started by previous administration, and was needed. Then auto bailout.. all those merge in people's mind. It's important to say, stim bill is about tax cuts, unemployment insurance, keeping health care, making sure states don't lay off people. But when you think about how $ is spent, you think about auto/banks. Now what we're doing is stabilizing economy, and helping people.

Q: How can family handle heating costs? Will you extend unemployment insurance?
A: Talking to Congress... We'll have to i.d. what's happening. Economy is stabilizing, businesses making some investments, but not hiring. We need a safety net for folks. We'll reevaluate when unemployment #s come out.

Q: Raising taxes helpful?
A: Normally you DON'T raise taxes in a recession, and we haven't. We've cut them. The tax hike on the wealthy wouldn't kick in till after the recession is over.

Q: Another idea to redirect stim money?
A: It's legislative, needs Congressional approval. Cash for Clunkers worked better than imagined. Improved sales, trade-ins improved fuel efficiency about 10% per vehicle... environmentally better than expected. 1/3 tax cuts, 1/3 help for families, 1/3 investments is good, but if something doesn't work we'll stop.

Q: Push health care through. Forget about bipartisan approach.
A: A couple of Repubs who have negotiated with us, but at some point, in Sept., we have to make assessment. [Lists benefits of his reform plan] I'd prefer R's working with us, but bottom line, the Amer. people, economy and budget need reforms. Failure is not an option

Q: The new normal: 58 year old looking for job. Job retraining not on his mind.

OOOPS.... Just got cut off...tech issues. End of interview, more aired tonight, MSNBC just said.

VIDEO: Chuck Todd's arguments against investigations of Bush torture crimes

By GottaLaff

Chuck Todd/Morning Joe video (relevant segment begins at 2:15):

Please read this piece by Glenn Greenwald . I won't do it the injustice of butchering it and posting a few excerpts, because Greenwald's responses need to be read in full:
Chuck Todd's arguments against investigations
When you're done, please come back and comment. I'd be interested in your reaction.

All my previous posts on this subject matter can be found here; That link includes audio and video interviews with Lt. Col. Wingard, one by David Shuster, one by Ana Marie Cox, and more. My guest commentary at BuzzFlash is here.

If you are inclined to help rectify these injustices: Twitterers, use the hashtag #FreeFayiz. We have organized a team to get these stories out. If you are interested in helping Fayiz out, e-mail me at The Political Carnival, address in sidebar to the right; or tweet me at @GottaLaff.

If you'd like to see other ways you can take action, go here and scroll down to the end of the article.

Then read Jane Mayer's book The Dark Side. You'll have a much greater understanding of why I post endlessly about this, and why I'm all over the CIA deception issues, too.

Chuck Todd to Host New Show

By GottaLaff

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3016/2579835188_74ed7fbe5d_o.png
On the job training? And for what? Check out the second paragraph:
Multiple network sources tell the New York Observer that MSNBC is in the process of developing a weekend political show to be moderated by Chuck Todd, the network's political director and chief White House correspondent.

"The new show on MSNBC, to debut in late spring, would give Mr. Todd more experience as a political moderator and provide him with a good opportunity to develop his long-form interviewing skills."
I liked him a whole lot better as their numbers guy.
