Counting Tea Party activists causes conflicting numbers

Another "You don't say" moment with the Tea Baggers. And Michael Steele telling a "falsehood"? Never happens.

Washington (CNN) – A new report by a nonprofit organization estimates that there are 67,000 Tea Party activists throughout the country, which is at odds with estimates by a handful of conservatives including Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

Dante Chinni, a correspondent for Patchwork Nation, told CNN that they have determined most of the Tea Party activists reside in reliably Republican districts, rural or agricultural areas, wealthy suburbs and what they call "military bastions" located near U.S. military bases. Patchwork Nation, which was launched by the Christian Science Monitor and funded by the Knight Foundation, arrived at 67,000 by poring over publicly available information to identify people who actually registered with Tea Party organizations.

"Is this a complete list of everybody? No," Chinni said. "I think … there's probably maybe 10,000-to-12,000 total that we've missed."

Yet Chinni insisted that, "this is the overwhelming majority of registered Tea party members."

Patchwork Nation's Tea Party member estimate is dramatically lower than one recently offered by Steele.

In a speech to Chicago college students, Steele said Tea Party activists make up "a third or more" of the voting age population.

If Steele's estimate is true, that would mean roughly 77 million Americans support the Tea Party.

Regarding Steele's estimate, Chinni told CNN, "If he's got numbers to show that…I'd really be curious to see them."

"I don't know if they actually exist," Chinni said.

CNN contacted the RNC to inquire about what information Steele may have used for his estimate.

Yesterday I posted about a brand spanking new network coming to you, courtesy of Comcast! (Yes, that would be the same Comcast that's trying to acquire NBC). This little endeavor is called The Wrong, er, Right Network!

I did a little digging with the help of Twitter pal JamieHarbor, and thought I'd introduce you to its founder, David "We need new program ideas" Jaget:

Apparently, he's really into getting thousands of free Twitter followers... or he's oblivious to having been hacked.

Jaget mentions that he is proud to be Jewish in his Twitter bio, here at a rally in D.C. (at 1:59), and in the following video of his appearance in Lansing, Michigan. I'm not sure why he feels it necessary to emphasize that, but, well, he does:

It's comforting to know David, his BFF Kelsey Grammer, and Comcast are doing everything they can to "protect this country against Liberalism."

UPDATE: Seems he may be a Las Vegas chiropractor who's trying to sell an $800,000 home. Or not. But if not, there are two David Jagets living in Vegas (his Facebook page references Las Vegas as his "current city"):

Kidding aside, Progressives need to do get their message out on a network of their own, as I opined the other day here and on Twitter. It's something many of us want, but nobody is funding yet, to our knowledge. Al Gore's Current TV is as close as we've come.

Great stuff, but you should know there's some separation between "Comcast Corp." and Snider's "Comcast-Spectacor". That is, Comcast sunk a lot of money into Snider's Spectacor, but he has a lot of independence -- here in Philly we see the two as very separate. Comcast Corp. -- despicable as they are -- has more ties to Democrats than the GOP, actually -- Corp.'s No. 3 used to be Rendell's top aide.

Earlier, I posted about how this little wingnut snake claimed he was "absolutely independent", but was funded by a wealthy conservative investor.

In April 2008, our little "pimp" took on Planned Parenthood:

When James O'Keefe, the undercover "donor," asked if a donation could be used for aborting a black child, a PP staffer from Tulsa responded, "We can definitely designate it for an African-American." [...]

Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger, once stated, "We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population." [...]

Last Spring, [Lila Rose, editor of The Advocate, the pro-life UCLA publication responsible for the investigations] posed as a 15-year-old seeking an abortion for the child conceived with her 23-year-old "boyfriend," played by O'Keefe. Rose recorded a Santa Monica, CA PP employee encouraging her to lie about her age so that the organization would not have to report her situation as statutory rape.

What a busy bee O'Keefe has been:

[W]e heard James' voice soon thereafter on the now infamous phone calls to Planned Parenthood wanting to make donations specifically to abort black babies.

What a stand-up guy. And the right finds Michael Moore offensive?

Not everyone among Mr. O’Keefe’s acquaintances agrees. Liz Farkas, a Rutgers student who called Mr. O’Keefe "a nice guy and a loyal friend," said she grew disillusioned after he asked her to help edit the script of a Planned Parenthood sting.

"It was snippets to make the Planned Parenthood nurse look bad," Ms. Farkas said. "I said: ‘It has no context. You’re just cherry-picking the nurse’s answers.’ He said, ‘Okay’ — and then he just ran it."
