Just what we need more of in the U.S. Senate. What an attractive record:

Former Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN), who wants to challenge Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) for his old Senate seat, "lobbied for a Texas-based oil and gas company that partnered with Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez," Politico reports.

The Hotline notes Coats has also "spent the past several years advocating on behalf of pharmaceutical companies, major health care firms and big corporations."

Surge-loving, Patriot Act-revering, Obama-name-calling Steve King says our president and Hugo Chavez are soul(less) mates when it comes to nationalizing:

They are, King said, "two world leaders who in the last couple of months have nationalized huge private-sector companies."

"Those two have done the same thing to private business," he said.

King's words offer a glimpse of how embattled some conservatives are feeling right now. Obama's agenda, he said, is coming "like a freight train, day after day after day."

His analogy has merit: The Obama agenda is on the right track.

President George H. W. Bush negotiated the Start II treaty alongside Russian President Boris Yeltsin, and President Clinton discussed foreign investment with Yeltsin. President Bush, of course, said he saw into Vladimir Putin’s soul after a private engagement. Each meeting had smiles all around.

GENEVA - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Israel of being the "most cruel and racist regime," sparking a walkout Monday by angry Western diplomats at a U.N. racism conference.

The hard-line leader's appearance overshadowed the substance of the weeklong United Nations attempt to stamp out intolerance worldwide. The United States and eight other Western countries, expressing concerns about its fairness, were already boycotting the event.

Protesters dressed with clown wigs and holding placards repeatedly interrupted Ahmadinejad's speech with shouts of "Shame! shame!" and "Racist! racist!" throwing soft red objects on the podium. Later, about 100 members of mainly pro-Israel and Jewish groups blocked Ahmadinejad's entrance to a scheduled news conference.

Heard the rumor about Leon Panetta's "daughter" Linda and Hugo Chavez?

Apparently, the photo and caption above are making the rounds, and the Linda Panetta in it is being falsely i.d.'d as Leon Panetta's daughter. The Panettas, you know, have been pallin' around with a bad crowd. Wrong. Wronger than wrong, dead wrong. Via PUMA:

In it, we stated that Leon was Linda’s father, we however had the following disclaimer as well:

CAVEAT: Based on the reasearch we’ve done, it seems Linda is the daughter of Leon. She’s definitely given speaking engagements using that family history, there is however some controversy about her parentage, so till it’s conclusively proven that Leon is her father, take this one with a grain of salt.

Well, at this point in time , we can conclusively state that Linda is NOT Leon’s daughter: Accuracy In Media

But reached by telephone in Philadelphia, Linda Panetta told Accuracy in Media that while she admires Leon Panetta and that there may be a distant family connection somewhere, he is not her father and that she has never even met him. “Not only am I not his daughter but unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of meeting this man who has done amazing work in his lifetime,” she said. “He and my father may have been second cousins,” she acknowledged, but under no circumstances is he her father.

Despite charges or information to the contrary, she has never claimed to be his daughter. She explained, “God rest my Dad’s soul. He was an incredible individual as well. I would never in my lifetime claim to be anybody’s daughter but my father’s.”

Baseless rumors are so easily squelched, so why even start them?

Chavez providing heating oil to Alaskan villages

Isn't Chavez one of them there Socialists the Governor of Alaska was railing about recently, also? And if she's such a great Governor, an energy expert even, why is this necessary? Someone needs to get on the phone machine thing, you betcha, and clear this up.

VENEZUELAN OIL: Controversial but free program in 3rd year.

With heating oil prices approaching $10 a gallon in rural Alaska and reports of neighbors stealing fuel from neighbors to warm their homes, a Venezuela-owned oil company plans to supply free fuel to villages again this winter.

That's what a Citgo executive who oversees the company's free heating oil program told the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council earlier this month, said council director Steve Osborne.

Citgo has provided roughly 15,000 Alaska village households 100 gallons of heating oil each for the past two winters. If the company donates the same amount this year, some families will save as much as $1,000 on their fuel bills. It's part of a program providing assistance to low-income communities in 23 states.
