I love this kid! He's got moxie:
What a brainiac... with heart. I know a few adults who could take lessons. Very impressive, to say the least, especially because he's on the right side of the issues. Go Will!

GOP forgets flag so they Pledge Allegiance to man in American flag t-shirt.
By GottaLaff
When it comes to the recent overwhelming rush of Rushpublic lunacy, I'm just about out of words, so:
Illinois Republicans are a patriotic bunch. They start their meetings with a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the nation’s unofficial loyalty oath. [...]
Republican county chairmen (party leaders, not county board leaders) held a meeting and prepared to recite the pledge. Oops. There was no flag in the room for them to face while reciting.
[They called] on a fellow named Gene to come to the rescue. Gene was wearing a shirt decked out in an American flag pattern. He came forward, and the group of assembled Republicans pledged allegiance to his shirt.
You have to wonder how conservatives would have reacted had Democrats done the same thing.

VIDEO: Teabaggers Scream Pledge Of Allegiance At Sen. Carl Levin
By GottaLaff
The Tea Tantrumers caught sight of Carl Levin, far, far away, and felt the need to pledge allegiance to the American flag:
If I were to catch sight of certain Rushpublics far, far away, I would be thrilled that they are far, far away and ignore them.
When I catch sight of of certain Rushpublics on the Tee Vee Machine, I scream obscenities or turn the channel.
When I catch sight of Democrats, I'll let you know. I've never seen any of the well-known ones in person.
When I catch sight of the American flag, I recite the Pledge of Allegiance when it is appropriate to do so.

Sarah Louise Palin: "Under God Stays"
By GottaLaff
Sarah Sled-Poodle believes in freedom of choice (her own, not anybody else's):
Consider that one month before the resolution passed the six-member, part-time city council, in June 2002, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals sided with Michael Newdow — ruling that the pledge’s language violated the First Amendment, which says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”From a previous post:
Newdow had sued his daughter’s school district over reciting the “under God” phrase in classrooms, claiming it injured his daughter by listening to teachers assert there is a god.
Palin, a pro-life Christian who ran for mayor on her conservative values, wasn’t going to stand for that. An ardent supporter of the phrase, she defended it again four years later when running for governor.
The pledge, of course, was not written until 1892 and the words "under God" were not added until the 1950s [during the McCarthy era]. From Wikipedia.Not. Fit. For office.

Sarah Louise Palin is not fit to be vice president of anything
By GottaLaff
Here is Palin's response to a candidate questionnaire for the Alaska 2006 gubernatorial race:
- Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?
SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.
First, the Pledge of Allegiance was not written by the Founding Fathers. It was written much later. Secondly, the words "under God" were not originally part of the Pledge. "Under God" was added even later. Those words were added in the 1950s, S Lou. She will be a fine, fine role model for all Americans if elected, now won't she? Except for the ones who are smarter than she is. That, I am guessing, would include a majority of the population.
Next, this luscious insight into what Sarah Lou thinks about being on a ticket as vice president. In this case, it would be-- wait for it-- Rudy Giuliani's. And guess what, kids? There are some extra crunchy bonus quotes!
[P]art of an interview Monocle magazine conducted with Sarah Palin, John McCain's newly minted running mate, in October of last year, when Rudy Giuliani was rumored to be considering her as V.P. (So much for that!)
Here are some excerpts [story is subscription only]:
Monocle: You must have heard the recent gossip that Rudy Giuliani, if he emerges as Republican nominee for President next year, might ask you to be his running mate. Would you consider it?
Sarah Palin: I think it is so far in outer space, the possibility that he would ever want a hockey mum from Wasilla to be his running mate, that I haven't considered it. I think the obligation that I have here is to serve my four-year term as a governor of Alaska. That's the deal that I struck with voters. [...]
M: This is a very male state. Have you been a victim of sexism in your public career and in that regard, have your good looks and beauty-queen past hindered you?
SP: If I have, I am totally oblivious to it. I haven't let it be an issue because it's just so passé, so 20 years ago to me. If anything though, what I have encountered, is age discrimination. It never occurred to me I was too young, but maybe I was. I feel pretty old right now. As for my looks [laughing], I don't know. Yes I did the beauty queen thing. But I was never a girly-girl. I did it for college scholarships. It paid for tuition for many years.
M: Back to the running-mate question. Say the Democratic ticket is Clinton-Obama, a woman and a black man, you can see why the party might approach you?
SP: That's diversity right there, isn't it? Wow! And who do the Republicans have? Good old rich white boys. I think that's another factor that has to be considered by Republicans, that in some way their candidates are a reflection of more politics as usual. Not to slam good old rich boys, but it sure wouldn't hurt for new energy and new perspective to be enveloped by the Republican Party.
The eternal fountain of giftiness.
