The other day I posted about another typical hypocritical Rushpublic sexcapade. Now it turns out it was a lie-filled sexcapade. So what else is new, right?
Today's Quickie (pun intended):
The male escort who accompanied George Rekers, a leader of the ex-gay movement, on a European vacation now says the two did engage in sex acts.It's about the hypocrisy, not the act. When will they ever get that straight (pun intended)?

That man was George Alan Rekers, of North Miami — the callboy's client and, as it happens, one of America's most prominent anti-gay activists. Rekers, a Baptist minister who is a leading scholar for the Christian right, left the terminal with his gay escort, looking a bit discomfited when a picture of the two was snapped with a hot-pink digital camera.
Reached by New Times before a trip to Bermuda, Rekers said he learned Lucien was a prostitute only midway through their vacation.
Ahh, it was all an honest mistake, see.
"I had surgery," Rekers said, "and I can't lift luggage. That's why I hired him." (Though medical problems didn't stop him from pushing the tottering baggage cart through MIA.)
Sure, sure, and guys cruise Hollywood Boulevard to hire babysitters.
Yet Rekers wouldn't deny he met his slender, blond escort at Rentboy.com — which features homepage images of men in bondage and grainy videos of crotch-rubbing twinks — and Lucien confirmed it.
He was probably just looking for some pithy articles.
Lucien said he was surprised that Rekers was unaware of his line of work.
Rekers lectures worldwide, from Europe to the Middle East, on teen sexuality. Yet during his ten-day sojourn with Lucien to London and Madrid, he had no lectures scheduled.
However, to be fair and balanced:
Both men deny having sex on the trip, and emails exchanged between the two before their jaunt are cautiously worded.
Fine. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Are you game? I'm game. But why go to all the trouble to specifically seek out Rentboy.com?
Oh what the heck. It was probably just some kind of innocent typo. Besides, what could he possibly find there that would make him think this had anything to do with gay sex?
To arrive at Lucien's site, Rekers must have accepted Rentboy.com's terms of use, thereby acknowledging he was not offended by graphic sexual material. He then would have been transported to a front page covered with images of naked, tumescent men busily sodomizing each other.
Oh. Dear.
Now who's going to help Rekers schlep around his emotional baggage?

To be fair, the CNN anchor poses the question in the context of discussing a 1950s-era California law which requires health experts to seek a "cure" for gayness. But the segment elevates discredited author Richard Cohen as a serious defender of the law despite the fact he was kicked out of the American Counseling Organization and practices without a license of any kind.

An outspoken critic of Mark Sanford is accusing the embattled South Carolina governor of orchestrating a smear campaign against Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer.Republican State Sen. Jake Knotts wrote to fellow members of the state legislature on Wednesday accusing Sanford and his allies of spreading rumors that Bauer is gay — a claim that was reported earlier this week by a blogger who seeks to out closeted conservative politicians.
"As a former target of a false rumor started by the Sanford Camp I can tell you with absolute certainty this attack was orchestrated on behalf of Mark Sanford, either directly or indirectly, and financially subsidized by him or one of his many 'front-groups,'" Knotts wrote. [...]
Knotts, an ally of Bauer and a fierce opponent of Sanford, said there is no truth to the gay rumors that have dogged Bauer for years.
"I have known Andre since he was eight years old," Knotts told CNN. "Ain't a homosexual bone in his body. That boy is a good boy. It's a just an attempt to prevent Andre from become governor."
Like being gay is something to be ashamed of? "Ain't a homosexual bone in his body"? "Good boy"? So gay men are "bad boys?" That's some friend.
Bauer publicly called on Sanford to resign last week, a request that was promptly rejected by the governor. Bauer is also planning to enter the crowded race to succeed Sanford next year. [...]
"It's an absolute effort by Sanford's people to discredit Andre," Knotts said of the rumors. "Sanford hates Andre so bad it's pitiful."
So he calls him gay and that's discrediting him. "You.. you... gay you!" I'd think a bigger slur would be, "You... you... Mark Sanford you!"
"Every time I have seen Andre and as long as I've known him, he's always had a pretty girlfriend," Knotts told CNN. "They love him, he treats them well, he treats them nice, he treats them with respect. He doesn't hang out in bars and go from woman to woman. Everybody that knows Andre knows for sure he ain't been seen hanging on to no damn man."
I realize Knotts is supposed to be one of the good guys, and that this isn't the point of the CNN piece, but I have a problem with the notion that one would feel pressured into statements like these to win over voters; that it's necessary to overcompensate by insisting that his pal always had a "pretty girlfriend", and the rest.
And I have a real problem with Mark, The (yeah, right) "Family" Man.

Gay-rights activist/talk radio host Michelangelo Signorile has the audio of Ken Blackwell during the Republican National Convention discussing how:
[H]omosexuality is a compulsion that can be "restrained," and he's quite confident he would be able to suppress it within himself -- though of course he's never had any sort of problem like that.
Of course not, Ken dear. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
"I've never had to make the choice because I've never had the urge to be other than a heterosexual," Blackwell said, "but if in fact I had the urge to be something else I could have in fact suppressed that urge."If only he could have suppressed his urge to be straight. Then all that threatening gayness wouldn't matter so much to him.
