Report: Anti-Semitic incidents doubled last year

Interesting. Seems to me that this would be obliquely related to the uptick in hate groups documented by the SPLC.

TEL AVIV, Israel — An annual survey of world anti-Semitism says attacks on Jews more than doubled last year, the biggest jump since the study began more than 20 years ago.

The Tel Aviv University survey counted more than 1,000 anti-Semitic incidents in the world in 2009, ranging from vandalism and arson against Jewish buildings to attacks on Jews.

The report noted the steepest increase of anti-Semitic incidents occurred in Western Europe, especially Britain and France. It says most of the incidents were carried out by Muslims, whose anger over Israel's invasion of the Gaza Strip last year often turned into attacks on Jewish targets.

VIDEO: Dylan Ratigan throws racist teabagger off his show

By GottaLaff

I referred to this in my previous post on the rise in hate groups ("There's a great deal of overlap between the Tea Party movement and militias.") over the past year.

Now here's the video of Ratigan cutting the mic of a racist Tea Bagger.

VIDEO- Hate groups at record levels + Dylan Ratigan cuts Tea Partier's mic

By GottaLaff

UPDATE: VIDEO OF RATIGAN CUTTING TEABAGGER'S MIC HERE.

Dylan Ratigan is discussing a rise in "Anger in America". Just jotting down random notes:

The election of the first black man in the White House who of course, wants to put us all in concentration camps, has something to do with it. Fear mongering, hate groups, are on the upswing.

Tea Tantrumer Mark Someone-or-other won't respond to Dylan's question. Dylan keeps pushing hard, but gets nowhere, and is getting really annoyed.

Oh wow, Dylan just cut his mic, said he was offensive because he just came on the show to spread his hate!

I'll try to get the video later. I got a phone call while writing up the post and missed a minute or two.

Meantime, via the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Today, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) released its annual “Year in Hate and Extremism” report. The number of extremist groups in the United States exploded in 2009 as broad-based populist anger at political, demographic and economic changes in America ignited an explosion of new extremist groups and activism across the nation.

Watch the video. "There's a great deal of overlap between the Tea Party movement and militias." Scary.

More corporate sponsored, right-wing anti-Semitism...

By GottaLaff

I saw this earlier, but my friend Larisa Alexandrovna beat me to the punch on writing it up, so I'll post a few excerpts from her post, and suggest you go here to read the rest:

No matter the issue, be it tax cuts for the middle class or health care for all, the stupid (and/or paid for) are out protesting against their own best interests.

But stupidity has crossed the line into offensive propaganda.

The photo was taken at today's glue-sniffer rally by ThinkProgress' Lee Fang. The sign above reads “National Socialist Health Care: Dachau, Germany – 1945."

Fox News has aggressively promoted this rally and its talking heads, like Glenn Beck, have aggressively tried to tie health care reform to Nazism. Americans for Prosperity, a corporate front-group sponsored this event.

Please read the whole thing, and thank you Larisa.

I'm sickened by this, and it's long past time to stop these ignorant, bigoted hate-mongers.

Skinhead hate group movement petering out

Never say never, but this certainly is a good tiding. Looks like they're turning into all talk and no action, which is fine by me.

FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- The skinhead movement is waning, a hate watchdog group's spokesman said, adding the election of the first black U.S. president has not increased hate crimes.

Mark Briskman, director of the Anti-Defamation League in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, region, said that although Internet activity shows an increase in what he called right-wing domestic terrorism since Barack Obama was elected the U.S. president, the event has not engendered a noticeable rise in hate crimes, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday.

Briskman said although 17 convictions for hate crimes by the area's skinhead group, the Confederate Hammerskins, in 1990 did not prevent skinheads from killing a black man a year later, the 1993 conviction may have signaled their last hurrah.

"We have not seen a return to the (skinhead) heyday of the 1980s and 1990s," Briskman said.

U.S. Capitol Police Officers' Ties Scrutinized Before Inauguration

Jeebus, this country has a huge capacity for hate. Go read the whole thing, but here's the nut-

In the days leading up to President Obama's inauguration, U.S. law enforcement agencies huddled regularly in an effort to minimize any possible security risk to an event that promised record crowds for the country's first black president. But one agenda item led authorities to a target close to home: the ranks of the U.S. Capitol Police.

An FBI investigation that included taped surveillance had placed two off-duty veteran Capitol Police officers in the company of individuals whose racial views and capacity for violence were under scrutiny. Although the recorded discussion did not center on Obama, federal law enforcement officials wanted to ensure that the officers were not on duty covering the Capitol, where the president took the oath of office, according to two sources involved in the matter.

The racist solution

By GottaLaff

I'm sorry to do this to you, but get ready:

Now imagine if Obama supporters posted the equivalent of this about IWRC* Palin or Gramm-pa McCain.
It seems like the pushback over this disturbing image made the blogger responsible for nonsense to delete his post.

...but is he remorseful?

Well, it is gone. I'll tell you why. The point of the posting was being lost and the post itself was becoming the story. Which I never wanted to happen.

The point is, I made the far left have a knee jerk reaction. I also gave them something to talk about.

Again, as I stated in the actual posting itself, I never, ever wished any harm come to Obama, at all. I was simply making a point and doing exactly what the left is doing to Sarah Palin.

This is what we're doing to IWRC? Really? Has anyone seen any Democrat anywhere post any graphic images encouraging her murder?

This is what it's come to. The Republican party has self-destructed. It's devolved into a vast stinking garbage heap of malignant bigotry.

Hypocritical Republican pretense of patriotism and flag pins is now reduced to nothing more than fomenting hate and violence. It's despicable, outrageous, and... well, if I had a functioning brain today, I'd come up with something more coherent. At this point, any other words that comes to mind are unprintable.

White Supremacists See Hope In Obama Win

This is just gibberish. Thankfully these neanderthals will be dying off soon.

(AP) They're not exactly rooting for Barack Obama, but prominent white supremacists anticipate a boost to their cause if he becomes the first black president. His election, they say, would trigger a backlash - whites rising up, a revolution of sorts - that they think is long overdue.

He'd be a "visual aid," says former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, in trying to bring others around to their view that whites have lost control of America. Obama's election, says another, would jar whites into action, writing letters, handing out pamphlets rather than sitting around complaining.

(snip)

The law center tracks the Nationalist Movement, the Klan and like-minded groups from its Montgomery, Ala., headquarters. The center's "Hatewatch" newsletter reported in June that some neo-Nazis, Klansmen and anti-Semites are saying an Obama presidency could prompt a race war, which many on the "radical right" believe whites would win.

Although not all white supremacists agree, "large numbers of these people really seem to think that an Obama election would benefit them hugely," Mark Potok, the center's intelligence director, said in an interview. He called that view "essentially a fantasy."

3 in 10 Americans Admit To Racial Bias, Hate Groups Growing

It's really quite a bit more than I would have guessed, but teh surge in hate groups doesn't surprise me. As Oliver says, "Let the cockroaches come into the light so we can squash them."

Survey shows age also may affect election views

As Sen. Barack Obama opens his campaign as the first African American on a major party presidential ticket, nearly half of all Americans say race relations in the country are in bad shape and three in 10 acknowledge feelings of racial prejudice, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Lingering racial bias affects the public's assessments of the Democrat from Illinois, but offsetting advantages and Sen. John McCain's age could be bigger factors in determining the next occupant of the White House.

Overall, 51 percent call the current state of race relations "excellent" or "good," about the same as said so five years ago. That is a relative thaw from more negative ratings in the 1990s, but the gap between whites and blacks on the issue is now the widest it has been in polls dating to early 1992.

(snip)

At the same time, there is an overwhelming public openness to the idea of electing an African American to the presidency. In a Post-ABC News poll last month, nearly nine in 10 whites said they would be comfortable with a black president. While fewer whites, about two-thirds, said they would be "entirely comfortable" with it, that was more than double the percentage of all adults who said they would be so at ease with someone entering office for the first time at age 72, which McCain (R-Ariz.) would do should he prevail in November.
