"Sometimes with personal friends, you disagree: I see a traditional liberal Democrat [Obama], a throwback to the Clintons.... Someone who supports government medicine, a redistribution of wealth... He [McCain] comes to the conclusion in an agonized way, he had admiration for both men (paraphrased)"And he goes on to say that both parties have gotten too extreme. But that McCain works with both parties.
"What I want is a Justice who McCain would appoint, not because of Roe v. Wade, but other decisions... I think Obama will appoint the MOST socially active judge."Wolf: So abortion rights could be limited...
Rudy: Under Obama, rights of criminal defendants will get extended again. I'm worried about balance of power, property rights.
Wolf: But Roe v. Wade could be overturned if McCain is elected... [Wolf kept pressing this point until finally, Rudy had to answer... sort of]
Rudy: If Roe got overturned it just means it goes back to the states.... That would be the protection.... [Those who want abortions] would have to make decisions [about traveling from state to state]. [He wasn't too comfortable with his own answer]
Wolf: Palin? Colin said she wasn't ready... McCain's judgment has been in question.
Rudy: I don't see a difference between Palin's experience and Obama's.... There's no management experience.... I'm comfortable with her being a heartbeat away... I'd say, the presidential candidate has less experience than the vice presidential candidate has!
Wolf: At the Al Smith dinner, McCain had effusive praise for Obama.
Rudy: In a race like this, you come away with tremendous admiration for your opponent... They're going through what you're going through. John is a very generous man who likes, cares about people.
Wolf: And Obama said nice things about McCain...
