Solving the Last Riddle of Watergate

I'm going to reveal a deep, dark secret I've kept for years. Right here on TPC, yes, I shall tell you all something I've never told anyone... ever. However, for security reasons, I'm going to delete the last 18 1/2---

Sometime during the Watergate scandal, 18 1/2 minutes of a taped conversation between President Nixon and his chief of staff, Bob Haldeman, were suspiciously erased, becoming "one of the great political mysteries of the 20th century."

Mother Jones says Haldeman took "meticulous notes on a tablet of yellow lined paper with a ballpoint pen" and now a one time NSA analyst says he may be able to resurrect Haldeman's notes "via a CSI-ish technology that can extract information from the imprints made by a ballpoint pen."

New Nixon Tapes and Files Released

Ooooh, we usually get something good out of these.

The National Archives is making public about 125 hours of tape and about 30,000 pages of documents from former President Richard M. Nixon’s administration at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The complete audio files and scans of some representative documents will be posted at the Web site of the Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. The full set of documents will be available to researchers at the National Archives annex in College Park, Md.

The newly released materials center on January and February 1973 and may shed new light on a turbulent and intense moment in American history. The period included Nixon’s second inauguration, a ceasefire agreement for Vietnam, and the criminal trial of seven men accused of breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate complex amid mounting revelations of their ties to the White House.

Mark Felt dies at 95

Why anyone would ask Pat Buchanan his opinion on Felt is beyond me. (they just did on Morning Joe)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - W. Mark Felt, the former FBI second-in-command who revealed himself as "Deep Throat" 30 years after he tipped off reporters to the Watergate scandal that toppled a president, has died. He was 95. Felt died Thursday in Santa Rosa after suffering from congestive heart failure for several months, said family friend John D. O'Connor, who wrote the 2005 Vanity Fair article uncovering Felt's secret.
