Patrick Kennedy: "Dad, the unfinished business is done."

By GottaLaff

Instant tears:

According to the Washington Post, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), son the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, visited his father's grave site in the Arlington National Cemetery following the passage of the health care bill, leaving behind a hand-written note that read: "Dad, the unfinished business is done."

One of the very best things about passing health care reform is knowing it fulfilled Uncle Teddy's dream.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy: “There would be no coverage had I not raised my voice"

By GottaLaff

Original post of this video here.

Boyoboy does Patrick Kennedy nail it. Unless we scream louder than the next guy, get a little theatrical, wave our arms, and make our point emphatically, nobody seems to hear us (which by the way, is the reason I started the Blunt webisodes):

“I understand there’s a certain amount of political theater and opportunity, and the press only covers it if you will raise your voice,” Kennedy said. “There would be no coverage had I not raised my voice, and there needed to be coverage or else it would have been drowned out.”

I find it ironic that Kennedy had to resort to screaming for a little coverage of his excellent points, but RedState's Erick Erickson will get all the free publicity he can hope for over at CNN, now that he's hooked up with TWPNTOTV!!!*

VIDEO: Rep. Patrick Kennedy rips into 24/7 scandal coverage

By GottaLaff

Patrick Kennedy going off on the House floor:

From C-SPAN coverage of the House floor 3/10/10, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) remarks on withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan. He references the press gallery and ex-Rep. Eric Massa (D-NY).
"We're talking about Eric Massa 24/7 on the TV?!"

Bingo.

Openly gay Providence, Rhode Island Mayor to run for Patrick Kennedy's seat

By GottaLaff

I'm Laffy and I approve this announcement:
Providence, R.I. Mayor David Cicilline, who is openly gay, announced today he will be a candidate for Congress. [...]

Cicilline will face state Democratic Party Chair William Lynch, who also announced his candidacy, and could face a number of other contenders. [...]

He was easily reelected in 2006 amid national media attention for his work turning around the fortunes of Providence, which was once beset by high crime rates and corruption.

This is all the e-mail alert said:

WASHINGTON (AP) AP source: Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., will not seek reelection.
More details when I see them.

UPDATE:

The decision by the eight-term congressman comes less than a month after a stunning Republican upset in the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat his late father, Edward Kennedy, held for almost half a century.

Patrick Kennedy has been in and out of treatment for substance abuse since crashing his car outside the U.S Capitol in 2006.

That's most of the information they added, nothing about why.

Patrick Kennedy Enters Rehab Again

Long, tough road. I've known way too many people in Kennedy's situation:
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), "a public face of recovery from addiction since an automobile accident spurred him into rehabilitation three years ago, has entered an undisclosed medical facility for treatment," the Providence Journal reports.

"While close friends of Kennedy gave few details of what the congressman called a temporary 'step away from my normal routine,' they stressed that this chapter in his recovery was not prompted by any sort of accident, injury, or trouble with the law."
