Bust of MLK Joins President Obama in Oval Office

Helluva lot better than the Churchill one. You'd think with all their "America Firstiness" the wingnuts would be happy he replaced a British hero with an American one...

Well, here's another way President Obama has put his historic stamp on the presidency. With no fanfare or media attention, President Obama last month added a new decoration to the Oval Office: a 12 5/8" bronze bust of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.

(snip)

When the Smithsonian lent the bust to the President Bill Clinton's White House in 2000 to be displayed in the White House Library, that marked, believe it or not, the very first time that the image of an African-American was displayed in a public space in the White House.

Pretty astounding, when you think about it, given the bust's current place of honor.

The King bust sits near the fireplace and adjacent a bust of President Abraham Lincoln, with the two legendary Americans facing President Obama when he sits at the HMS Resolute Desk. The Lincoln bust sits where a bust of Sir Winston Churchill -- on loan from the British Embassy after the 9/11 attacks, and returned before Mr. Obama's inauguration -- once sat.

America disagrees with Andy Card: Casual attire A-OK in the White House

By GottaLaff

[bushjacket1.jpg]
Paddy and I posted about this several times. Now America is chiming in:
Obama Senior Adviser David Axelrod hit back at Card recently, saying that “[w]e’re wearing short sleeves because we have to roll up our sleeves and clean up the mess that we inherited.” According to a new Fox News poll, 68 percent of Americans agree with Obama and Axelrod:

But when Obama decided to ditch the suit coat in the Oval Office some people took offense, such as former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card who said there should be a “dress code of respect” in the White House. The public is a little more button-downed about it: 68 percent are okay with a more “relaxed and casual” dress code, while 26 percent think a coat and tie should be required in the Oval Office.

I don't feel like hunting down the links (okay, just one), but isn't 26% around the same percentage of people who still support Bush, who still support Congressional Republicans, and still support the people who support those people?

VIDEO-- Hardball: Chris Matthews rips hypocrite "Precious Andrew" Card who says Obama disrespects Oval Office

By GottaLaff

Suh-nap! Chris Matthews accuses Andy Card of getting a little "dainty". (Note: I edited the title. I posted too quickly. Apologies)

The fun starts at about 1:27.

Paddy's original post here. Tweety could have asked his researchers to dig up more photos like the one Paddy found, to really push the hypocrisy charge. However, he did manage to rip into Dainty Andy pretty handily, and for that I am grateful.

Bonus! You get a second look at Barbara Boxer accusing Lindsey Graham of being "theatrical".
