Obama Plays the "McCain as Hothead" Card

Now, Senator McCain suggests that somehow, you know, I'm green behind the ears and, you know, I'm just spouting off, and he's somber and responsible.

MCCAIN: Thank you very much.

OBAMA: Senator McCain, this is the guy who sang, "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran," who called for the annihilation of North Korea. That I don't think is an example of "speaking softly."

This is the person who, after we had -- we hadn't even finished Afghanistan, where he said, "Next up, Baghdad."

So I agree that we have to speak responsibly and we have to act responsibly. And the reason Pakistan -- the popular opinion of America had diminished in Pakistan was because we were supporting a dictator, Musharraf, had given him $10 billion over seven years, and he had suspended civil liberties. We were not promoting democracy.

This is the kind of policies that ultimately end up undermining our ability to fight the war on terrorism, and it will change when I'm president.

BIDEN: do you know how John McCain pays for his five thousand dollar tax credit? He taxes as income every one of you out there, every one of you listening who has a health care plan through your employer. Taxing your health care benefit. I call that the "Ultimate Bridge to Nowhere."

Biden: GOP in ‘time warp’ over Palin: "Folks, it's 2008"

Call them out, Joe:

Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) said Monday that Republicans are in a “time warp” for questioning how he will handle the vice presidential debate with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R).

They must be anti-women's equality, JOeBama.

Recalling what the Senate was like when he first was elected, at age 30, Biden, now 65, said he heard many of the same questions about women that he hears in preparing to debate Palin.

“Our Republican friends are kind of in a time warp, and I'm not being facetious,” Biden said during a campaign stop in Green Bay, Wis. “How do you debate a woman? How do you do this? Folks, it’s 2008.

You'd never know it by the visuals at their convention. Moving along:

“There are an awful lot of very, very accomplished women holding high public office that debate, and we beat up each other every day in the United States Senate,” the Delaware senator added. “Try debating Barbara Mikulski, try debating, you know, Barbara Boxer, try debating Olympia Snowe.”

... Hillary Clinton...

Palin spokesman Ben Porritt:

“That Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that endless debate and constant gridlock are what get things done in Washington is emblematic of everything that is wrong in Washington,” Porritt said. “Sen. [John] McCain and Gov. Palin have challenged the establishme nt and worked in a bipartisan way to achieve change.”

McCain is to change as Palin is to .... change. Let's try that again. McCain is to change as the Republicans are to... change. Oh, you know what I mean.

Showing that he will go after the GOP vice presidential pick, Biden said that Palin so far has shown “what appear to be some very extreme views” and challenged the governor of Alaska to answer questions from the press.

“She is going to have to go on ‘Meet the Press’ like I do and have them come at her like they come at me,” Biden said.

Think again, Joe.

Porritt took exception with Biden’s use of the word “extreme.”

The truth hurts.

Blogger Power! Fox News snubbed again

Coveted assignments for presidential debate moderators were handed out last week, and guess who was left off the list ... again.

After suffering the bitter, and unprecedented, blow during the Democratic primary season of having candidates refuse -- twice -- to appear in Fox News-sponsored forums when bloggers raised hell about the news organization's lack of legitimacy, Rupert Murdoch's news channel was again left off the list of news anchors tapped to moderate the must-see TV events in the fall.

Let me rub that in a little more. I'm sure nobody here will mind, am I right?

But the snub means that once again Fox News will be denied the chance to leave its imprint on the all-important debates. It won't be able to build its brand on the back of Democrats who have injected extraordinary passion and interest into the White House run.

That passion and interest has helped boost ratings for Fox News' cable competitors, while Fox's numbers have remained stagnant. Meaning, the unfolding presidential campaign has been a ratings dud so far for Fox News and its unofficial year of woe.

What's that? You want even more? Ohhh, well-l-l, okay:

Fox News has been taken down several notches, and the demotions can be traced back to the blogger-led debate boycott from 2007 and the repercussions it set off.

The point of that media pushback was to begin chipping away, in a serious, consistent method, at Fox News' reputation. The goal was to portray Fox News as illegitimate, to spell out that Fox News was nothing more than a Republican mouthpiece and that Democrats need not engage with the News Corp. giant, let alone be afraid of it.

In other words, bloggers wanted to badly dent the Fox News brand.

And we did! Go us! Let's throw in a couple of nyah-nyahs.
