Tuh-Weet! Ana Marie Cox: The news is canceled

By GottaLaff

As far as MSNBC is concerned, Iran, Darfur, health care reform, global warming, et al. have been eclipsed by much bigger news: The death of a celebrity.

Oh that's right. Darfur was never really newsworthy to begin with.

Not-so desperate housewives:

...Patrick Gavin writes about Bravo TV's search for The Real Housewives of Washington, DC. Among the names being tossed around, MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell, Newsweek/Haddad Media's Tammy Haddad and Air America's Ana Marie Cox. O'Donnell's casting is probably a non-starter since she already works for the company that produces the show.
As if they have time for this. But you know we'd all watch...

Rahmblings

By GottaLaff

Rahmblings:
Ryan Lizza's profile in the New Yorker is today's must read piece:

"Unlike recent chiefs of staff from the Bush and Clinton eras, who tended to be relatively quiet inside players, Emanuel is a former congressional leader, a Democratic Party power, and one of the more colorful Beltway celebrities. He is a political John McEnroe, known for both his mercurial temperament and his tactical brilliance. In the same conversation, he can be wonkish and thoughtful, blunt and profane... And, like McEnroe, Emanuel seems to employ his volcanic moments for effect, intimidating opponents and referees alike but never quite losing himself in the midst of battle."
Here's Ana Marie Cox's Tweet take:
anamariecox OK dived into Ryan's Rahm profile (delaying) it is indeed seriously hot slash fic. “Rahm likes to clean up after cleanup time is over.”
I'm starting to like Twitter.

McCain strategist Steve Schmidt was against Prop 8

By GottaLaff

Ana Marie Cox interviewed Gramm-pa McCain's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt. Here's a snippet:

Towards the end of this election cycle, it seemed to many that Schmidt and the McCain campaign were reverting to themes that seemed almost antique: red-baiting taunts of “socialism” as well as appeals to “real America.” But today, Schmidt rejected those tactics as blueprints for future: “The Republican Party wants to, needs to, be able to represent, you know, not only conservatives, but centrists as well. And the party that controls the center is the party that controls the American electorate.” As to what form Republican centrism might take, Schmidt’s response to an email follow-up question suggests it will be anything but the kind of base-friendly social conservatism of Palin.
