Today's very Shallow Thought:
Has anyone else noticed the new anchorette vocal trend over the past year or so? They typically start off with a fairly normal delivery, but then pause for effect toward the end of a sentence... ... ...

... ... ... and finally continue, dropping the volume and tone until ... their voices lose steam and crack. I find this irritating, partly because I coach my students to avoid this kind of thing on a daily basis; partly because my brother was an on-air news reporter who took pains to learn proper news delivery; and partly because I miss the professional sound of a real, honest-to-goodness, seasoned news anchor.

(On the upside, Mr. Laffy and I imitate the anchorettes often, which brings us some sort of perverse sense of relief. Won't you join us?)
That was today's very Shallow Thought. Thank you for wading in.
