The U.S. ambassador in Kabul sent two classified cables to Washington in the last week expressing deep concerns about sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan until Afghan President Hamid Karzai's government demonstrates that it is willing to tackle the corruption and mismanagement that has fueled the Taliban's rise, said senior U.S. officials. The last-minute dissent by Eikenberry, who commanded U.S. troops in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007, has rankled his former colleagues in the Pentagon -- as well as Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, said defense officials. [...]
His position as a former commander of U.S. troops in Afghanistan is likely to give added weight to his concerns. It will also likely fan growing doubts about U.S. prospects for Afghanistan among an increasingly pessimistic public.

I thought this would be the ultimate decision for President Obama. There are no military or political advantage to stay in Afghanistan. You cannot fight the Taliban, since many are the Pashtu tribe (57-60% of Afghan people) who hate the thieving corrupt Karzai government and foreign troops taking over their villages. It amazes me the stupidity of some of these so-called military expert....thinking just bc Afghans are mostly Muslims like Iraqis....the same tactics/policy would apply....disregarding the history/geography/tribal complexity and political differences.
If we want to monitor and justify occupying a country, Pakistan and India is the place.....but we will never do that or WW3 will truly overtake the world.

What a joke. If you remember about a year ago, all Mr. sotero could talk about was Afganistan. "We need to be there not Iraq", "It's where Bin Laden is" etc. What gives Barry? Let's just let the boys die while you fiddle about in Asia. Maybe you could stop by for a visit with your General on the ground (if you could be bothered to find the time)
