Mark Salter, Sen. John McCain's closest aide, told Time magazine that the changes to how McCain campaigned -- such as no more "straight talk" with reporters on the campaign bus -- were actually forced by the press. Here's an idea: Accept responsibility for a horrendous, disorganized, erratic, mean-spirited campaign.
Said Salter: "The fact that we didn't do the back-of-the-bus stuff is only a function that you guys really wouldn't let us. Once the cameras demanded to be there, it became, What can McCain say that we can circulate on the hour and embarrass the shit out of him? So he just couldn't do it, and it wasn't a Bush hijacking or anything, it was recognizing reality. We were being mocked by the meta-narrative writers for being undisciplined, lacking a single central message."

So much delicious fallout, so little time.
Come on, Laffy. Of course it's the press' fault. They wouldn't just accept the talking points the McCain campaign pent hours developing and Randy the intern spent all that time photocopying for them! Those media bastards insisted on asking questions and holding us accountable for what we said! It's unfair. They didn't do that to Bush!
Yeah, the media was doing something wrong by wanting the American People to know how shoddy the Mc campaign was run. Bad media. No biscuit.
That damn media wanting to embarrass McCain.
How very generous of him to act the fool and give them so much material to work with.
Cable Guy is now gone. I have my freedom again.
Now let's see if he fixed the TV glitches.
and the mcsame campaign had to go slimy because obama wouldn't campaign like mcsame wanted to. too, also.
He's got a point. They couldn't do those press conferences any longer because the press would have shown McCain embarrassing himself. They recognized reality. :)
