Seven Alaska state employees have reversed course and agreed to testify in an investigation into whether Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her powers by firing a commissioner who refused to dismiss her former brother-in-law.Stay tuned...There is no indication, however, that Palin or her husband will now agree to testify about the case, which has dogged her for the past several months and could hurt John McCain in the final weeks of the presidential race. [...]
Alaska's Supreme Court, meanwhile, is considering whether to block the findings of the legislative inquiry. The high court scheduled arguments for Wednesday over whether the case is being manipulated to hurt Palin before Election Day on Nov. 4.
The independent investigator conducting the probe plans to turn over his conclusions on the case by next Friday to the Legislative Council, the body that authorized it.

Some progress, but not enough. IWRC Palin needs to testify, as does "her guy".
The two of them need to either be busted for perjury, or busted for the truth.
The manipulation of the case that could hurt Palin before Nov. 4th is her own and that of the McShame campaign in attempting to redefine a legislative inquiry that began before she was ever named running mate as somehow "partisan" politics.
Bless her heart, she brought it to herself, dontcha know. Golly gee.
Uh oh...What will happen to the Ice Queen whe she starts feelin' the heat?
I meant "when she.."
I wonder if someone assured these people who are now willing to cooperate that they won't lose their job?
here is a good note I saw on Kos:
Hillary Clinton lobbed a doozy at McCain while she was filling in for Joe Biden on the campaign trail:
Clinton said Biden called and asked her to fill in for him because of the family emergency. Rather than sharing her thoughts, she said, "I want to share with you the eloquent remarks that Joe had prepared."
Clinton sought to tie McCain to Bush, saying the Arizona senator offered voters "more of the same."
"He's not a maverick. He's a mimic," she said.
not a maverick, he's a mimic -- love it
Yes! Yes! Evers, I saw that! I loved it too.
Hmmm...Very interesting that Hillary filled in for Joe, just sayin'.
I read some comments that people thought the Alaska Supreme Court would NOT hear the case - would let the lower court's judgement stand (that the investigation could go ahead, etc) but after it was announced that they would hear it, I'm thinking they'll reverse the lower court and put a halt to the investigation. Lord knows we wouldn't want any facts coloring people's votes on 11/4.
Things look better for Barack every day.
I just can't wait for the Ice Queen to finally melt...Is that a bad thing?
It is clear that all this new cooperation is just a delay tactic. Now Palin's lawyers can argue to the Alaska Supreme Court that the investigator's conclusions cannot be released on Friday because there are still depositions to take.
If the legislature still insists on releasing the report on Friday, Palin will then argue to the court that the report is "biased" because the legislature released it without hearing all the witnesses.
There is a reason all these witnesses are now being cooperative, to delay the report!!!
Oh...good thinking, Joe. I hadn't made that connection at all. Duh!
This close to the scheduled release date of that report (Friday), the investigator probably has the information already from depositions they gave to the other inquiry (aka Palin's Handpicked Panel).
As a delaying tactic, it is probably too little, too late. :)
I don't think it'll delay anything. They already took depositions, and there's nothing to prevent them from using what they get as time goes on.
I think they're cooperating because they realize the deep shit they'd be in if they didn't, and are expecting the Supremes to confirm that.
By waiting until the last minute may make it tougher on the good guys, so perhaps that was the idea.
But I know nothing about law, so I'm pulling this out of my magic hat-o'-bullshit.
