This typically happens on the weekend, though, right? And this is only one poll.
Regardless, this should be a reminder that we must not get complacent. Like Michelle Obama said, we need to keep running until we reach the finish line... until we break that tape.
Things will tighten, even if Obama wins in a blow out. For one, we cannot continue to expect ~8-10% to remain undecided as election day gets closer. Additionally, as lopsided as I think these two candidates are, it seems unlikely that Obama can win by 10 points when the country is still somewhat evenly divided (and other demographic challenges which are unique to Obama's candidacy).
The great thing about the Gallup poll is that its likely voter model is not much off from this one. If all the major polls show a consistent 5-7 point lead on the eve of the election, this will be a walk in the park.
Come on now, everone in their right frame of mind knows that if you vote McCain, you are just getting President Bush all over again. So let's not be ignorant, come on and vote for Senator Obama; he's the best man to lead this world along with his elected Vice President Joe Bidden. Terrific team. Love them.

Um, eek? Okay, it's Gallup, and it's national, not state by state.
I just liked it better when there was an 11 pt. spread.

still pretty good news thou...I posted this somewhere else, but 2 recap:
In 2004, in the month of October 11:
Bush 48.1% Kerry 46.5%
Right now, same date:
McCain 42.9% Obama 49.5%
===========================
Around this time support starts to stick. Bush was ahead by around 2% and ended up winning by 3%.
So, we are solid, but nothing is guaranteed until we see Obama in the White House!
Thanks, Cyndi!

I agree, Clanc. I heard Chuck Todd say awhile ago that, if Obama maintains a 5 point lead, it's considered a landslide.
The L Word rears its beautiful head again.
And to add this about Ms. Moose and her being a "fiscal conservative" (aka...Business as Usual!)
