McCain tussles with Palin over whipping up a mob mentality

The article gives too much credit to McCain for trying to be decent, but c'mon, what VP ever has laid out the "tone" of the campaign? Granted, she's a horrid person, but you can't convince me that she's not doing exactly what they want her to.

With his electoral prospects fading by the day, Senator John McCain has fallen out with his vice-presidential running mate about the direction of his White House campaign.

McCain has become alarmed about the fury unleashed by Sarah Palin, the moose-hunting “pitbull in lipstick”, against Senator Barack Obama. Cries of “terrorist” and “kill him” have accompanied the tirades by the governor of Alaska against the Democratic nominee at Republican rallies.

Mark Salter, McCain’s long-serving chief of staff, is understood to have told campaign insiders that he would prefer his boss, a former Vietnam prisoner of war, to suffer an “honourable defeat” rather than conduct a campaign that would be out of character – and likely to lose him the election.

Palin, 44, has led the character attacks on Obama in the belief that McCain may be throwing away the election and her chance of becoming vice-president. Her supporters think that if the Republican ticket loses on November 4, she should run for president in 2012.

I call huge bulls**t.

I, for one, cannot wait for Palin to run in 2012. Epic Fail.

Wow. Too bad they didn't know what kind of woman she is before she was put on the ticket...

She will run in 2012 and become the Alfred Landon of the 21st century (if you don't know who that is, look it up on Wikipedia)

She should run for president in the next election -- of the Moose Lodge. And when did soccer moms become Hockey Moms? There's three people who play hockey in America... compared to the six that play soccer. D.

David, Ha! Too true. But don't sell the Loyal Order of the Moose short. They wouldn't have her.

Paddy is right, of course, this is a bullshit story, leaked from a desperate campaign that's willing to toss Palin aside in a feeble attempt to salvage McCain's reputation with his base, the press.

I don't believe McCain has said anything the Palin except keep up the good work. He's thrilled she's whipping up hatred... He'll only accept losing if it means he can create some hate. D.

well then if he is so mad at her tactics let him fire her. He is still the boss no?

By the way I think it would be fabulous if she ran in 2012 - because I don't think there are enough nuts out there to throw the election and she is a nut job

McMagoo is rubbish at controlling his temper, and he was seriously riled at the old lady who started reciting Governor Gump's lesson on what Barack really is into a microphone. He struggled with the recognition he then had to give Barack, but the temper he showed when snatching back the mike was real.

BTW, that sort of temper should neer be anywhere near any means of starting a war.

BTW, bis, Governor Gump because McMagoo didn't know what he was going to find inside. With her he loses, without her he loses. O serendipity sublime!

I would LOVE for Palin to challenge Obama in 2012.In fact I'd sign up for it.

I doubt her political career will survive til 2012. Long before that, she will have become a guest commentator on Fixed Noise.

Is McCain totally disconnected with his campaign or are they playing a game of good cop/bad cop?
I didn't check the news today on TV, but just yesterday on MSNBC one of his representatives kept spewing the same hateful B.S. that Palin has been spewing.
I don't get what's going on.
