I loved the wrap up that Sarah Palin has not accepted their offer to appear on Today.

How does he just keep smiling like that? Poor soul.

Daddy? Is that you? I want him to adopt me.

Paddy, I'm no fan of Biden (he's done more than enough damage as the messenger boy for big financial interests). I like his foreign policy as a rule, however.

But when is he going to stop saying what a great guy McCain is?

Welcome back, Joe.

As for his "praise" of McCain, I love it. I bet it drives McCain nuts.

McCain aides indicated this morning that Ayers and Wright are now off limits, and would no longer be discussed by his campaign. I'll believe it when it happens.

Here's the deal -- Biden is a gentleman, and so is Obama. He can look his opponent in the eye and tell him or her he respects them, he's their friend, but he doesn't agree with them.

My 2nd cousin is Al Simpson. When he was in office Ted Kennedy and him would fight it out on the floor of the Senate and then go out for beers afterward. That's debate, that's politics, that's respect.

You can't convince someone of your opinion if you vilify them. We've had that for eight years. How about we bring back a little dignity, respect, grace and HONOR to the Executive Office.

Clancy, I hate to be the cynic that I am, but I think that means they expect a 527 to use that smear. I don't think it's working for them anyway.

Or they realize that Palin and McCain have far worse associations and they want to pretend to take the high road in the guilt by assoication garbage.

Joe Biden continues to be stellar. What a reassurring presence for the campaign. This guy can handle anything.

I am in SHOCK, people.

I just saw an ad for Obama on a local channel.

I live in TEXAS. Do you have any idea how long it's been since any prez candidate placed an ad in Texas? Well, neither do I but it has to be decades.

Obama is buying ad time in Texas. Damn.

That's fine with me. If McCain, Palin, and the 527s drop those topics it just means that O doesn't have to bring up Mc's ghosts from the past. I'm sure McCain prefers it that way, and the less mudslinging Obama has to do, the more Presidential he looks.

Our mud is better than theirs, too. So we win either way, I think.

I still think we need to bring up Palin's shit list, though. She needs to be buried by her past misdeeds. Karma is a bitch, baby.

I say you are right king... go after Palin she is the lightning rod here. Not McCain. Bring here down and everyone is happy. No one has to dislike McCain so people will feel good about that, but this Palin character...what a bitch...

Yoga: I appreciate the gentleman's club attitude of the senate (although the GOP has completely ignored that for two decades now and the Dems need to figure that out).

But it is one thing to debate on the floor and then go have a beer. It is another to keep saying what a great guy your opponent is in a national election. He doesn't need to vilify McCain. Nor should he. But can he just shut up about what a hero and great guy he is? He doesn't need to tear him down, but he doesn't need to build him up either.

I understand what is behind that, but just don't think it plays well on the national stage.

And Eve, I haven't seen any Obama ads down here, but I seldom watch television. Was talking with a man the other day at the park and he thinks Texas could turn blue if we can marshall the Hispanic vote in a major way. He wondered why Richardson wasn't in San Antonio and Houston drumming up support.

The idea of a blue Texas is a bit of a reach for me ... but damn if I don't love the thought.

Biden continues to impress me as a great running mate. Attacking without lowering himself to the layer of BS that McCain/Palin continue to revel in.

hey, bucky -- I am ready for Biden to give the "I love McCain" bit a rest.

I doubt that Obama thinks he has a shot at Texas. But since the economic crisis hit, McCain support has dropped sharply here. I think Obama may be running ads to get out more of the vote to help down ticket or to make McCain have to advertise here. Or maybe both.

I don't know the why, but it was great to see a national Dem ad!

Bucky,

yea, I see what you mean. I actually thought the guy who played Biden in the SNL skit nailed it.

You can go drink a beer with your competitor, but you don't have to tell the world he's everyone's favorite guy in the bar.

I have often wondered why McCain sometimes seems lucid & sometimes does not know where he is, now it is revealed that he is taking those"supplements", it is understandable that he is up and down and all over the place.

I don't think that O thinks he has a shot at Texas THIS YEAR. But I'm hoping he and his campaign is looking to the future. Let's be honest, Texas is only a red state because of racism. But I think the tide is turning and we've got a shot at becoming a solid Dem state again.

YogaJ: One of the biggest problems that the Dems have had in recent years is that they are still playing by the old gentleman's rules of politics and the GOP fuckwads aren't. We've got to catch up. I wish it were still the situation where we could debate ideas and policies and remain friends, but we are in a situation where people in a crowd threaten to kill Obama and McCain doesn't object.

Times, they have a-changed.

eve said...

Bucky, I don't disagree about the fact that there is racism in Texas, but there are many people in Texas who went red for other reasons.

My former in-laws were as blue as can be. They are ranchers in west Texas. They campaigned for Adlai Stevenson. They were very blue until Carter. The economy just scared them. They started voting republican. They have never been racist.

I can think of many people I know who vote republican because they believed all that nonsense that they were better for us economically. Which based on what the repubs did to Texas in the 80's is an incredibly dumb belief. But facts don't bother some people. Also know a few people who believed the repubs were really more religious. The republicans are losing voters in red states because they have proven they are neither good with the economy nor does the party really care (for the most part) about the religious right.

We are a minority-majority state. I hope that drives the racists crazy.

Eve:

To be honest, I can't decide if I agree or disagree with you about racism in the Texas GOP.

My large East Texas family are all Republicans and every one of them would deny being a racist because you know, "we love our niggers; they are wonderful people."

[Notice the use of the word "our" coupled with a derogatory racial epitath. You'd hope that it couldn't get any worse than that, but you'd be so sadly wrong.]

They don't see themselves as racist at all and if you asked them why they were Republican, they'd spout some economic bullshit.

But my family -- who for generations voted as Dems -- are exactly the people that Pres Johnson referred to as he signed the Civil Rights Act and said, "we've lost the South for a generation."

The South was reliably Democratic for generations because of Lincoln and the "War of Northern Aggression" and they are reliably Republican now because of institutionalized white priviledge.

They may not be wearing sheets, but it really isn't much different.

I hope, Eve, that you family is much different than mine.

But still. Republicans. WTF?
