Sniff. Much nicer than the earlier stories.
Amanda Jones, 109, the daughter of a man born into slavery, has lived a life long enough to touch three centuries. And after voting consistently as a Democrat for 70 years, she has voted early for the country's first black presidential nominee.

LOL....ah forget it...
This woman, by age and background, sounds fundamentally unique... and quite a story. Would be great to meet her and ask her questions about her life, her family and her dreams. She sure lived the life. D.
wow, we all think of slavery as ancient history, heck even segregation seems long ago....until Americans like this lady remind us to many its a recent memory. I hope we record the amazing history and narration of people like her, whether its the 104 yrs old American nun voting for Obama all the way from the Vatican to Ms. Jones.
Being white, I cannot imagine what this campaign means to someone like Ms. Jones. I know what it means to me and I can appreciate all the emotions she must be going through at this time.
For all those who waited so long to see the change that's coming, blessed be that you are here not just to see it but to be a part of it. And it is thanks to so many who went before and are not here to see it that we all can be part of it now. Yes we can, and yes we will!
Ms. Jones, you and Ms. Cooper and Sister Cecilia are inspirations to us all! :)
Good for her, good for Mr. Obama, good for our nation. This is how we heal the deep wounds of division in this country and how we foster the best and brightest to lead our children into the rest of this century. what an acheivement!
if i could meet anyone right it would be her. the stories she must to tell. she is such an inspiration for me. i hope there is someone writing her life story.ms amanda jones god bles you and your family.
A 100 year old black lady votes for a black man and this is news??? What about the 98 year old white woman that votes for McCain? This isn't news its BS .... The Race card is played too D*mn much in this country and I'm tierd of it.
The race card being played too much? Yes, that's probably what her father said. The race card was played a long time ago, and not by the slaves on whose backs this country was substantially built. The point of this story is that a black woman whose father was a slave can vote (something only white men could take for granted for too long) for a black man (who in her father's day would scarcely have passed for human) to be President of the United States. I for one think that is an astonishing achievement -- for the country. I hope that a President Obama will help us all, black and white, move on to better times, acknowledging the past but committed to improving the future.
