The headline above is what Chuck Todd just said on MSNBC. I don't know who he was talking to, but he said that she was going back to Alaska to be "in seclusion" to see her son off to the war. The day he leaves, September 11th is next Thursday, one of the many pieces of this Lifetime Movie that just seems too bizarre.
Excuse me, who the hell does this woman think she is? Gotta and I were screaming at each other over this [Laffy Note: In agreement]. She is applying for the second most important job probably in the WHOLE DAMNED WORLD!! Get your moose eating butt out there and answer some questions lady. This is total crap.
Not only is this insulting to America, it's damn insulting to women, mothers and mothers of soldiers. No one is begrudging you your goodbyes, but if we are going to put our children's lives in your hands, you go hug your kid and then get your ass out and tell us why we should trust you with our kids' lives.
I'm livid.
Laffy Note: We are both livid. This post talks about her seclusion to some degree. But to avoid the press to the degree that she has deprives voters of an honest, transparent look at what appears to be a dishonest, under qualified lightweight. Her transparency is clearly (no pun) limited to the neck up.

Looky there, a joint post!
Is SHE pregnant now too?
Seriously, this is all so childish and stupid, isn't it?
It's also a major overreaction on McCain's part...sorta like Iraq.
HRC should call this stupid, wimpy woman to the mat!
Wow the Republicans really hate even the IDEA of a voter having a CHOICE, don't they? Voters have no info, AND no choice. I see a parallel here.
Here's a talking point for ya:
"Putting Gov. Palin in front of those mean hostile reporters just wouldn't be fair - why, it would be just like hunting wolves from a helicopter!"
Ha! How apt.
It is clear that the seclusion is to learn the issues and facts, plain and simple. What a joke.
This is a bunch of crap....my son is an "secured" assignment meaning I don't know where in the world he is at any given moment.
But I still have other responsibilites, did not "seclude" myself to say good-bye to him...btw didn't she know weeeeeeeellllllll in advance her son was leaving, she should've kept her moose eating azz at home to began with.
Welcome to the national scene, biotch
OH MY GOD!!!!!
Show of hands of those that thinks after or before this date she withdraws because of her "family" issues.
Actually, all of Bush's folks are busy prepping her for her debate with Biden. I read that somewhere.
McCain is using ALL of Bush's people, but somehow the media skips over that info allowing Morning Joke to argue with a straight face that McCain is so TOTAALLY separate from Bush.
It's all a bullshit sham.
Who knew that today is Palinday. Plain tonight will emerge from seclusion and when she sees her shadow will return into seclusion for another few weeks.
Just about the time you were posting that, I was driving between jobs and realized how absolutely livid (good word!) I was about the whole Sarah Palin nomination - got to work and wrote out a whole rant, the gist of which is HOW DARE THEY DO THIS!! How dare they treat this election like it some big fucking joke.
Going into seclusion?
snort ..
"What exactly does the VP do" is turning into "O .. M .. F .. G .."
I had a few people tell me they didn't think she would have time to be VP with 5 kids. She's proving them right the first week of the campaign.
Interesting. Her "seclusion" to say goodbye to her son is longer than her 3 day maternity leave after giving birth to a disabled child????
Dang Dana, I didn't see that one....good catch
AND just in case anyone forgot, Joe Biden's son, Beau, is a general in the DE National Guard and is ALSO shipping out to Iraq (in Oct). How often do you think the MSM or the GOP will mention that?
But Chris, he's not leaving on SEPTEMBER 11th.
What an inspiring thread. I just got back from another tough day with my ailing 90 year old father, and I needed my faith in life restored. Thank you all.
Most inspiring? Getting Hillary Clinton to call Ms Palin, (palin' as she sinks slowly back into oblivion...?), to the mat for a debate. That would show the Republicans what a real female politician can do: different from the male approach, but of exactly the same value.
Ya know...I started to put that into my comment, but deleted it...my written snark doesn't come across as good as yours does.
Damn, but I am really, really angry about all this. (not the seclusion, the whole nomination.)
legal alien- {{{big hug}}} Not an easy path.
if you believe this I have got a bridge to sell you in Alaska. she is being sent as far away from the media as she can get. the pubs will say anything and expect people will fall for it. not me!
Sarah...honey:
"You're not afraid of the Big Bad
News Media are you??? Come on...
tell us who you really are!!!
We promise, the news media won't BITE!!!
Have we heard the latest? She stated that the Iraq War is "a task from God" I was raised Republican AND Assembly of God and I am terrified by this choice. Simply terrified. And no - if you are Republican AND Assembly of God there is no room for pro choice ANYTHING.
Look- All Republican VPs have to practice going to an 'undisclosed location", especially if you have zero experience and "don't know what a VP actually does". (see Dick 'undisclosed location' Cheeny for pointers.)
