Planned Parenthood receives donations from grassroots e-mail campaign

Love it. Original post about this here.

A grassroots e-mail campaign is asking Obama supporters to stop complaining about Republican GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and to donate $10 to Planned Parenthood in her name instead. Subsequently, the non-profit has received tens of thousands of dollars in donations the past week. Furthermore, for each donation they receive in Palin's name, a hand written thank you note will be sent to the McCain headquarters in Virginia.

DO NOT MAKE IT IN HER NAME. This elevates her to a status that is unneccesary. She should not be the motivation behind this campaign. You are creating more of a wedge issue here.

Anon, I respectfully disagree. Image the McSame HQ getting 10K+ or 100K hand written thank you notes from an organization they CLEARLY don't support... they'll KNOW where (and why) they came from. It's hysterical!

THE best, most satisfying donation I've ever made!

Amy..there is really nothing funny about it. Would you want there to be a surge in registration with the NRA in Barack Obama's name. This is the time to grow up and stop the us against them mentality. This is what got this country into the financial mess we see today. Every issue becomes a partisan issue. Everything Barack Obama stands for is for mending fences not putting them up.

Again, Anon, I respectfully disagree. And I agree with Diva.. it WAS the best donation I've made lately (other than to the campaign), and my 25+ friends and friends of friends agree.

It made me laugh when I did it and it still makes me laugh.

And sure, if people want to donate to the NRA in BO's name, super. That'd probably actually help us a bit.

Cheers!

Donate, donate, donate. The feel good should come form the people who you are benefitting, not the people you are trying to hurt.

Most assuredly, Anon, the feel good is being felt (good) by the people PP helps.

Just wanted to point out something I've been waiting to say! I believe this month or next, October, Palin was officially governor for as long as Obama has been campaigning for president! Anon and Amy, I agree we want to support BO's mending fences philosophy but we also have to protect ourselves from women like Palin and for us no-name masses, the voters, our dollars are our voice.

Who cares what the feel good comes from as long as people are getting the help anyway. Do you know most insanely rich people donate a large portion of thier income to Charity? Do you think it is because most of them REALLY care about the issues they are donating to? No a lot of them do it JUST for the tax deduction. Or for political reason but guess what? It helps those organizations and it makes the shallow feel good.

So either donate or mind your business. What makes me happy is MY business and if you don't agree then oh wel1. The point is to let Mccain and Palin see that woman value the right to choose. And we are not going to just let him or her take that right away.

P.S.

I giggled my ass off when I donated. Best Idea EVER!!!

I'll start by letting you all know that I will be voting for Obama, no question in my mind about that. However - this is absolutely sickening.
I do not like Planned Parenthood because they give abortions to underage girls without notifying their parents. Plus you all here are making a big joke about abortion. Abortion is not something to laugh about. Why don't you all get a grip?

No one is making a joke about abortion, Anon. We are simply rallying around free choice. Abortion is a small part of the services provided by PP, along with education to help keep women informed and disease-free.

By the way, this conversation/argument is exactly what rightwing whackos expect from us - internecine fighting. Lighten up.

Did you know, Anon, that Planned Parenthood also gives internal exams & Pap smears to women who can't afford them? That they also give mammograms to older women who can't pay for them elsewhere? That it's a place to go for birth control info & prescriptions? That they provide many, many other services to women who need them? Your insinuation that all PP does is abortions is wrong & harmful to that agency.

Chris - I honestly didn't know that. I just went to their website http://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/AR_2007_vFinal.pdf and it says just 3% of their services goes towards abortion. So I stand corrected.

You are a testament to the liberal spirit, Anon. Sincerely, we should all be as willing to read and learn as you are. Bravo!

Anon no disrepect but your statements about PP are a good example of people who Are against Obama. You claimed things that you yourself do not understand. You came on and made a generalized judgment of us who thought the PP donation in honor of Palin was a great idea and put it off as mean spiritedly without even knowing all the details. I know you say you supprt Obama but understand that there are thousands of people out there who do exactly what you did as a reason to NOT support him. Make generalizations with out knowing the facts. The difference though between you and the anti_obama folks is you had the good sence to research after being told that you were not entirely correct in your assumptions.
If only half of the Anti-Obama peeps would do that then we would have this by a landslide.

Why would I want to give money to PP? They support the sexual abuse of girls.
Google: "Planned Parenthood Conceals Statutory Rape"

They also take money to target the abortion of black unborn babies.

Google: "Planned Parenthood Black Racism"

Donate to Planned Parenthood if you believe in the cause of Planned Parent, not because you are against Palin. You are using PP to sell a a joke.

I'm the anon who dissed everyone here for making a joke out of this and thought that Planned Parenthood was mostly an abortion service. Let me tell you, I am sincerely blown away about this. So blown away that I am still thinking about it today.
I went to the PP website yesterday to prove Chris wrong. I thought surely abortion would be at least 75% of their services. I was shocked to see it was 3% and I really do apologize to all.
Now I see a post up here saying that they target Black communities for abortions. Well I was originally under that impression too - but now - I feel that is probably bullshit too. If only 3% of their services are abortion then that means they are providing a whole lot more health services to the Black community.
I have a pretty open mind, and I am usually not this ignorant about things - I don't know how I formed this opinion and I wonder how many other people have the same ill-conceived notions that I had about PP.

This conversation has been so enlightening to me. I was studying eugenics - and abortion was one of the subtopics. When I was studying abortion I was looking at the abortion stats and other things that pertained to my studies so I didn't really take my time and study PP.

PP is mentioned often when doing abortion studies, thus my opinion formed.

And listen Anon - No disrespect intended, but when you said: "You claimed things that you yourself do not understand."

That is not true

The thing I claimed is "they give abortions to underage girls without notifying their parents." That is a fact. I understand that.

The failure was my opinion formed of PP without knowing what the organization did in total.

Thank you to those who brought this to my attention. Much appreciated.
