adrienne - Things are about the same... lots of excitement and lots of talk about folks here voting a straight democratic ticket (which would 1. Cast a vote for Obama, 2. Re-elect the very popular Jay Rockefeller to the Senate, and 3. Replace my district's Republican Congresswoman, Shelly Moore Capito, with soon-to-be Democratic Congresswoman, Anne Barth.)
No new polls here, but I like the latest ones from VA!
Just saw McCain on TV, he was saying that he has been warning about this crisis for 2 years now. I think this man does not know we have him on video for the last two years calling for deregulation. Didn't Romney say at the repubs convention that McCain would take a weed whacker to regulations.
I think Obama should participate in the vote on Capitol HIll and encourage others to reject the proposed bail out for Corporate America. If, in fact he believes that the greed and neglect of the business world created this catastrophe, he should stand by his word in changing the government, by denying corporate lobbyists this windfall bailout on the backs of all Americans. If it were just a small mom & pop company they would go under. I think the big boys need a wake up call!
I saw McCain also. He did relatively well, although he didn't take many questions and you could see the gears turning: How can I turn this crises into the mother of all Democrat ratfscks?
Obama speaks with intensity, with conviction, with self-assurance and aplomb. I personally find that much more gratifying than hellfire-and-brimstone oratory at this time.
I don't recall either FDR or JFK having to blow steam out their ears to get a point across. They knew how to communicate with the American people, get their points across, and leave people feeling reassured in the worst situations, giving them a sense that someone at least still had a handle on things.
Frankly, if Obama bellowed "ENOUGH!" every day and belched fire, it would lose some of its impact, and make him look histrionic rather than presidential.
I just saw McCain on CNN. He stated in a news conference that this bailout is going to cost each American household $10,000.00/year. I don't know about you, but #1. I don't have $10,000.00 in my household budget to bailout Insurance companies who take a monthly check from All Americans, and gives coverage for little.
Obama can't show any real anger whatsoever, cuz then he'd be an Angry Black Guy.
I can just hear Rush now: My friends, do we really want an Angry Black Guy doing Angry Black Guy Stuff in the White House? Putting up Angry Black Guy Posters in the Oval Office? Letting his Angry Black Guy Friends sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom?
And even McCain can fake "passion" or "angry" in a crises, but few can fake "cool".
Americans need to protest Say No to the bail out. Get off your rumps and go to your congressman or your Capital and let your voices be Loud. No Bail Out

Calm, cool and collected. In the midst of this financial uproar, Obama soothes with reason and practicality.

I am glad Obama had this news conference. I hope the American people are smart enough to elect this man.

But that's my opinion. Your mileage may vary. ;)
