5 Words That Best Describe John McCain

Ouch. Worse than Obama's words imho.

Voters were asked which one word best describes the Republican candidate

  1. Old
  2. Patriot
  3. Bush/Bush-like
  4. Experienced
  5. Honest

(In order of frequency mentioned.)

Honest? Really?

I really wish more people paid attention.

Great minds, kitty.

Makes you wonder where they got the idea he is honest. Obviously, they don't read the news talking about all the lies he's told.

This list is incomplete. We should add "Totally Creepy" and "Erratic"...

Curious that "Maverick" was MIA, considering how hard they push that.

molix, I think that most people shy away from using "Maverick" to describe McCain nowadays due copyright infringement worries., seeing as how they've surely trademarked the word, they use it so much.

Anon, they seem to have omitted that one too.

How about "Angry"?

I was looking for "idiot" -- I guess that didn't make the top 5, though it's probably the most appropriate. D.

I do not think people really know the definition of maverick. And if they did, they would soon agree with Chris Matthews ”that a maverick cannot LEAD.”

Maybe these people were given 5 words and were asked to assign the rankings. The average person with an average vocabulary would come up with ”honest” all on their own.

Compact Oxford English Dictionary:

maverick 1) an unconventional or independent minded person 2) (N. Amer.) an unbranded calf or yearling.
- Origin: fromSamuel A Maverick, a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

So, McMagoo is a whacko, immature and unorganised person. Welll, Gramps, you said it!

I believe maverick also means an independent individual who does not conform to a group. McCain could not lead the republicans in this bailut effort, He would not be able lead the democrats, if elected. What exactly would his role be. A maverick is someone who is always going against the grain and therefore cannot lead. Even though ”maverick ” does not appear on this list, McCain still sells himself and Palin as mavericks. In Thursday's debate I hope that Joe Biden will hammer this point. Mavericks do not lead! Mavericks do not offer solutions! Mavericks have a shoot from the hip cowboy mentality. America we have been there, done that.

Anon: exactly. Mavericks act outside of any organisation. But since hierarchy is a form of organisation, and there is no leadership without hierarchy, ex- or im- plicit, mavericks are usuitable leaders. I've read about the way McMagoo would intervene with his ground floor personnel without running it through their direct superiors. It sounds kinda cutesy, but commanders who cut out one or more layers of the ranks reporting to them usually leave their unit in one heck of a mess for the next CO to sort out.

It's typical maverick behaviour, a pure ego-trip, and it's destructive in the way McMagoo's dash to "save the US financial institutions" made matters worse. In big organisations there can be no tampering with the way orders go down and reports come back up the same lines of communication.

Maverick = liability.

Were they limited to 5 words to choose from? That would mean they all wanted "honest" at the bottom.

Maverick behavior IS ego centric. So much for country first.
