Poll-itics: McCain leads by 4. Outlier?

By GottaLaff

"Statistical noise"? Drugs?

Sen. John McCain moved from being behind by 6 points among "likely" voters a month ago to a 4-point lead over Sen. Barack Obama, 49% to 45%, in the latest USA Today/Gallup Poll. The poll was taken over the weekend.

McCain still trails among the broader universe of "registered" voters, 44% to 47%.

This poll is separate from the Gallup Tracking poll which today shows Obama ahead by 8 points among registered voters, 48% to 40%.
Whether this poll is an outlier or accurate, whether "likely" is any more or less accurate than "registered", whether the wording of the poll was biased, I don't care. What I do care about is how McEthicless could be ahead, or even close, in any poll. It makes no sense, and yes, it shows that polls are meaningless, especially summer polls.

74% of Americans think this country is going in the wrong direction. McEthicless is a Bush clone. That would give him only 26% of the vote on a good day.

Somebody explain the mindset of these poll participants.
